" Lilith chimed, surprising herself with how cheerful she managed to sound. Her voice was quiet, but she actually sounded happy. Maybe it was the idea of Chris that enabled her to fake it. Chris was someone Lilith wanted to be friends with.Lilith couldn't deny that she was cold. The water didn't magically warm up even if Lilith had grown used to the temperature more than when she'd first got in. That meant nothing was more appealing than sitting by the fire, except, maybe, chatting with Amy. Based on Seth's comment she had to doubt that'd happen. So she made her way through the water toward the two, summing up the courage to smile despite the guilt now occupying her thoughts.
"Chris is coming here? Oh, she's really nice. I can't wait to see her.
"Pudding! I completely forgot! I was supposed to make it after my English report. I hope Chris isn't too upset..." Lilith tilted her head down slightly, placing both of her palms against her forehead as if that might somehow indicate to her forgetful mind that she'd just made a rather big mistake. How had she gotten so carried away? Coming out to the water with some stranger on the internet wasn't nearly as important as keeping her promise. After a few seconds, she slid her hands down as she tilted her head back up, her gaze on Seth as her fingers settled against her cheeks. Was he upset she hadn't kept her promise yet? Before she could find the right words to ask, her gaze shifted to Amy as she spoke, telling her she wanted to leave, but would stay at least until Chris came. Lilith dropped her hands back to her sides.
"Would you like to sit by the fire while we wait? You must be cold." Liith suggested kindly. If she couldn't reassure Seth, she could make Amelia more comfortable. It was in that moment that Lilith started walking again, taking her first step out of the water. It was also the moment that she realized how unpleasant the feeling of sand against her bare feet was, Lilith decided walking on her toes- really, more like hopping than actual steps- would solve this problem.
Lilith was watching her movement against the sand, silently impressed by the partial footprints the small portion of her foot left. It almost looked like an animal track!... almost. Then, the question she absolutely wasn't expecting. It stopped her movements completely and left her standing in the sand, her gaze cast down for a few brief seconds. Did she want to go with Chris and Amy? No. Not at all. Spending the night hours chatting with Seth was, well, almost routine now. How could she possibly give up the chance to tonight? Even if he only walked her to her dorm, there was something about how safe she felt that made her wish she could stay at his side. There was a smile on her lips as she looked to Amy, wishing she could erase the words just spoken, though they weren't her own.
"Go with you guys? That sounds like fun. Maybe we can celebrate inside the school. I can stay in her dorm, can't I, Seth? If Chris is there, too?" Lilith turned her attention to him once again, now wishing she was brave enough to admit what she really wanted Seth to say was no. No, she couldn't go, she couldn't ruin the routine. She needed to make pudding for him, and stay up late, and make sure he fell asleep in a safe place, or at least was warm when he did, just as she had before.[/blockquote][/blockquote]
