Amelia slowly walked down the hall. Her stomach made small noises proving that she was very hungry. She found the food here disgusting, but food was food. She had to eat something so why not eat here. It wasn't like she had anywhere else to go after all, her parents were both dead. Slowly she made her way through the dining room, getting in line for some food. Even though there were so many options she hated it. She sighed grabbing a plate and moved behind the other student. She put chicken on her plate and some rice. Still moving in the line she put some salad on her plate and grabbed a roll. She wasn't sure if a person was allowed to have seconds or not, she had never dared to try it. She grabbed a water bottle and walked away, heading for a table with as little people as possible.

She found a table near the corner that nobody was sitting at and took a seat. She started cutting up the chicken with her fork and knife, then opened up her water bottle for something to drink. Salad always tasted good with a little bit of chicken, and rice just tasted good to her. She also liked the bread they served. It seemed today's food wasn't going to be as bad as normal. She broke the roll in half and started to nibble on the end. Eating slowly worked best if you were watching your weight and didn't want to make yourself sick. She sighed before placing the bread back down on the plate and pulled out a book and started reading it.

McCoy wasn't particularly social. He tried to keep below the radar and stick to the people he had to associate with, like his roommate, while generally avoiding the other prefects. In the dining hall, it was always an awkward encounter. He was reluctant to sit near Darrian because, well, Darrian had other people to talk to... Of the opposite gender. McCoy was a bit too shy to enjoy something like that, or at least to be good at it. He'd never admit he sort of admired the confident way of his roommate when he went around flirting.

Maybe Darrian was rubbing off on McCoy though. As McCoy walked through the line, grabbing pizza, a salad, and a container of chopped colorful fruit, he found his eyes wandering to the others in the line and in the dining hall. Talking to them wouldn't be too bad, would it? Unless they noticed the prefect symbol and got the wrong idea. McCoy was startled out of the thoughts when someone behind him urged him to move. He nodded, finally choosing pudding and a chocolate candy bar.

Last night McCoy been on patrol around the school [which was really a pointless task for him- he never actually got mad at the other students, he just warned them not to get caught by someone else]. It suited him better than some of the other jobs, and if it got people to think he was actually trying to be a prefect and support the cause, he'd volunteer. At any rate, he was ready to take a nap after he ate, so he figured he'd better be full first. Who knew if he'd sleep through dinner? It was entirely possible.

The thought of talking with the other students occured to him again as he walked. He avoided the tables with the prefects who wore their silver insignias and looked away whenever someone gave him a glare becuase he was wearing his own. Finally, he found an essentially empty table with only a girl reading. She seemed so disinterested, maybe she wouldn't notice he was a prefect. McCoy smiled.

"Sorry to bother you, but... may I sit here?

[/color]" McCoy questioned hopefully. He didn't plan on disrupting her reading if she said yes. He could sit quietly across from her and be quite content if she'd let him.[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Amelia looked up from her book to see a male standing right in front of her. She was confused, never had a perfect approached her before. She almost thought that she had done something wrong as if reading was against the rules or she had sat at his table or something. Finally after staring for a long minute, she finally spoke up. "Umm yeah, sure.. err... right yeah." She blushed and pulled the book up to her face to hide red cheeks of being embarrassed. This guy is so handsome.... and dreamy.... but he won't like me... he just wants somewhere to sit.... She sighed and turned the page of the book. Oh how she wished that her own life was a fairy tale and she could just have a happy ending, but that wasn't possible because there was nothing to return back to. Her mother was dead, her father is dead.

She let go of the book with her right hand and grabbed her fork eating some of her salad... If the book wasn't there you could still see the red cheeks. For some reason she just couldn't stop, she just couldn't get him out of her head, even with the book in front of her. She tried calming herself down, hoping that the red in her cheeks would be gone, it worked, pink cheeks showed on her face when she moved the book. "Hi I'm Amelia..." She bit her lower lip, instead of waiting for McCoy to answer she pulled the book back in front of her again... Maybe I am dreaming, when I move the book he won't be there... Or he won't answer. She moved the book slightly to see if McCoy was still there.

She didn't seem very certain about her approval, but it seemed rude to walk away, uncertain or not. So he sat down with a smile and a quick nod.

"Thank you.

[/color]" He offered. He looked away while she was watching him, pretending to be interested in the salad. He opened the container of ranch dressing, pouring it carefully over the green leaves on his tray. Once he was finished, he looked up again only to find she had her book obscuring her face.

Well, he had decided before he ever sat down that he'd be okay with her reading while he ate. Less awkward that way, wasn't it? He didn't want someone he hardly knew staring at him while he ate. McCoy turned back to the food until she greeted him properly. Again, that smile lit his features as he lowered his fork. Swallowing the salad that was already in his mouth, he finally answered.

"Nice to meet you, Amelia. I'm McCoy.[/color]" McCoy introduced, slightly amused by the pink he noted in her cheeks. Was that what he thought it was, or could she possibly have placed her makeup weirdly? It didn't look like makeup, exactly, because the color was too evenly placed... McCoy kept his thoughts about the blush to himself as she raised her book again.

McCoy wasn't in support of this dodging game of hers. But if she was shy, he couldn't really blame her. He turned back to his salad again, taking another bite as he patiently waited for her to muster the courage to speak again. If she didn't, he supposed he could say something, but he didn't really want to scare her away, so he wasn't sure if he dared to.[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Amelia gave him a small smile. "No problem.." Oh my gosh he is so hot... Normally she wasn't like this. She had sat with others before but mostly girls, and that was when all the other seats were taken. With her book hiding her face, she continued eating her food, first the salad, then the rice, and then the chicken. She closed the book and set it down on the table. Finally she felt that she was calm enough to talk with him. "It's nice to meet you too McCoy." She looked down at her food, she wasn't hungry anymore. The salad was gone, but the chicken and rice stayed on her plate barely touched. She also didn't finish the piece of bread that she had only half of. She didn't realize that her cheeks were still pink but they couldn't get any worse right? She took in a deep breath and looked around the room.

I wonder why he chose to sit with me instead of the other perfects over there. "I didn't do anything wrong right?" She asked finally looking over at him again. "I mean the perfects are over there... and yet you are over here with me..." Maybe I shouldn't have asked, it isn't any of my business. No wait... if I am in trouble it is my business right? Just shut up and if he answers he answers and if he doesn't, he doesn't. I won't press it if he won't answer up though... Another smile was on her lips as she looked into his eyes, then she looked away, again blushing slightly. She thought he was handsome and she was under his spell.

"No, of course not,

[/color]" Came the rushed reply, his expression revealing how startled he was by the question. Why would she think she'd done something wrong? She explained moments later. Oh. Right. Prefect. He raised his hand to the insignia on his uniform, hiding it from view for the briefest moment. Yep. Still there. He dropped his hand again, annoyed that he had to have it on.

"Uhm... I guess I could have went over there.[/color]" McCoy shrugged before grinning. "Hey, try this.[/color]" Maybe he was just trying to distract her... He wouldn't say so aloud. McCoy grabbed the chocolate bar, ripping the wrapper before letting the bar slide onto an unoccupied portion of his tray. Next, he grabbed his unused knife and spoon, first cutting off a section of four pieces- two across and two down. After, he took the spoon, dropping a bit of the chocolate pudding onto the candy bar. Next, he placed another four-piece section of the candy bar on top before turning the tray to her so she could take it.

"There you are, something sweet after lunch.[/color]" McCoy offered. He had finished his salad, too, but still fully planned on eating the pizza he'd gotten, and at least some of the chopped fruit. He could do without the candy and pudding. He still had a few pieces left... And if she didn't want it, he supposed he'd be stuck with it. McCoy set the spoon in the pudding bowl, the knife on the tray, and grabbed the fork again. He stabbed a random pair of fruit- a pineapple cube and a watermelon cube- and ate it quite contently before looking back up at Amelia.[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Amelia was caught off guard by the reply leaving his lips so fast. Her eyes just stared as he hand moved up to touch the insignia on his uniform but thought nothing of it. "I just wanted to make sure." She smiled back at him. At least now she knew that he chose to come here by free will and not because she had done something wrong. She was after all a good student. She never had been offered a chance to be a perfect but she didn't care for picking sides. She didn't want to get in the middle of anything if she could avoid it. She was pulled out her thoughts when she seen him grinning. Now what did I do? Am I blushing again? The thought alone made her cheeks go deep pink. Oh he just wants me to try something. She watched him till he was done with the candy bar.

The worst thing that could happen was that she wouldn't like it. She grabbed the candy with her spoon and picked a piece up and ate it. It was good, but she had to watch her weight. She set the spoon done on the tray. Unlike him she went without the tray and had just the plate. Maybe he had noticed that though. She didn't care about the tray, and nobody had bothered to tell her to claim one so she didn't. She never made a mess anyway so she didn't see the point. She picked up her water bottle and drank out of it. "It's good." She answered him as he stabbed at the fruit. She smiled watching him go for it... was sort of funny to watch. This time when he looked up at her, she just looked back at him. The book was on the table untouched. It wouldn't be long before she planned on returning to her dorms though.

She wasn't one for sneaking out, and maybe he should be asking her if he wanted to come with. It couldn't hurt to ask after all right? "After you are done eating, do you want to take a walk?" She asked with a smile on her face. If she was lucky, he'd say yes. Who knew maybe he had a girl friend. If he did, hopefully he would turn her down polity instead of leading her on.

McCoy was silently pleased she tried it, even if he had only said it as a distraction to get her off the topic of him being a prefect. He, personally, had a particular taste for chocolate. Second to cinnamon, it was definitely among his favorites. His idea to mix the chocolate and pudding was just his own sense of boredom and experimentation, though it didn't take that much thought to combine the two items into one. It would have been better shredded into the bowl than as a makeshift sandwich. McCoy glanced up, finally noting the book. So she wasn't as shy, then? Ha! Bravery was a good trait to have. McCoy stirred his pudding absently, finding that looking back at her without saying anything just made him feel anxious.

Pretty girl, or pizza and fruit? Man, Darrian really was rubbing off on McCoy. He knew he should probably stick with his idea of going to sleep. He'd been awake for far too many hours in his own opinion, but the opportunity was hard to pass up anyway. So he nodded, taking another quick bite of the fruit. Pizza wasn't all that good for him, anyway, and he didn't want to keep her waiting while he ate.

"Yeah, of course,

[/color]" McCoy nodded with a smile. Two more equally quick bites and the rather small container of fruit was finished, leaving only the pizza and the remains of the chocolate pudding and candy bar. He wouldn't starve, he'd at least eaten the healthy things on his plate, so he was doing well, right? He tried to convince himself that was true.

"Pizza's not looking so good now, I don't trust it. Want to go now?[/color]" McCoy offered. It wasn't technically a lie, but to make the statement about the pizza not looking good true, he'd have to qualify it by saying he'd rather walk with her than sit there eating in front of her. He wasn't about to say that aloud.[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]

So maybe he is single after all? Such a handsome male, and he was open for taking... Unless he just wants to walk with me out of boredom... She wasn't sure of his reasons for going with her but she wasn't about to ask. She didn't want to scare him off after all. "Awesome." She placed her book in her bag that was hidden on her lap. She laughed and covered her mouth. "Yeah... lets go." She agreed with him and stood up from the table slowly. She placed her bag on her left arm and picked up her plate with her left hand and started to reach for the tray with her right hand. She didn't like leaving a mess for somebody else to clean up. It was something that she had learned back when she was at home. Oh home... how I miss it... She pulled herself out of her thoughts to eye the tray that was in her right hand.

McCoy wouldn't have been able to tell her why he walked with her. It wasn't because he was bored- he would have rather ate. It wasn't because he already had some sort of crush on her, because he didn't. She was prerry, but McCoy wasn't the type of kid to get noticed by the pretty girls, so why get his hopes up? And besides, he was the type of kid to fall for his best friend before he fell for the beauty queen. When she got up, and grabbed her plate, he was fully prepared to take his own tray. To his surprise, she reached for it.

There were a couple of things wrong with this. If people saw a girl carrying his tray for him, they might get the wrong idea about him. Where he was a prefect, it didn't seem like people thought highly of him anyway... After a split second decision that lead him to decide he'd rather just let her do it than worry about everyone else, he smiled, erasing any trace of his previous surprise.

"Hey, thanks,

[/color]" McCoy offered. Which left only the awkwardness of not knowing what came next. He put his hands in his pockets absently, his cheeks turning their own shade of pink as the situation got to him. Why hadn't he just acted faster and got his tray before she could? Oh well...

"So, got anywhere in mind, or is it a secret?[/color]" McCoy questioned curiously, just hoping for some form of conversation. He didn't actually care where they were going. He would have followed her wherever she wanted. Being a prefect, he couldn't get into too much trouble as far as he was concerned. But he'd been wrong before.[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Amelia smiled and walked off with his tray. She even dared go into the back kitchen to place in in the sink itself. She was just so nice, and the cooks didn't seem bothered, she wasn't making a mess there after all. Maybe if they were nice she'd come back later and help clean up. She came back into view to meet up with Nash, who hadn't yet left the table. She couldn't help but hope that she had made a good impression in front of him, even if he was a perfect. She also did it because she didn't want to wait around for him, just in case he was interested in talking with other girls, which was fine, she supposed but if she could she'd have this one all to herself. She wasn't all that sure of the reason why she wanted him and didn't want to share, just something about him that she liked and didn't want to give up.

Since she had walked off without giving him a comment back she felt that it was better to say it late then not at all. "No problem." She finally answered him back. He is just so handsome standing there. I beat girls flirt with him all the time. She was pulled out of her thoughts to hear his voice talking to her. "Anywhere is fine? Maybe just walk around the halls till we find something interesting, or if you have a spot in mind we can go there?" She asked, but hoped that they could at least get out of the dining room. She felt like somebody was staring at her, and it made her feel a bit tense, maybe it was because he was a perfect and she was just... her. She wasn't sure how long he had been there, so if he didn't have a plan in mind, she would be willing to show him since she had been here for five whole years. This being her fifth year, sometimes it sucks being smart.

McCoy felt even more awkward when she walked away. Where could she possibly be going? To his astonishment, she disappeared into the kitchen. McCoy stood by the table, his gaze wandering to the people around him as he waited. Was this another prank by an unkind student, or could she possibly have sincere motives? He wasn't sure yet. Maybe he should sit down so he didn't look so out of place... Before he committed to the idea, he noticed her walking back toward him. Relief flooded him, leaving him to grin. He nodded when she said no problem, not wanting to comment on the topic further anyway.

"We can go just about anywhere... I mean, I am a prefect.

[/color]" McCoy shrugged. It didn't do him much good to go anywhere he wanted, but having the prefect badge had saved him from being scolded for wandering before. "I don't have anywhere in mind, I don't mind walking around the hallways though.[/color]" McCoy felt like he'd patrolled just about everywhere in his time at the school. Since she didn't have a particular destination in mind, he began walking toward the exit, his pace slow so she could catch up with his sudden movement or call him back if she wanted to.

Amelia smiled when she seen him grinning at her. She was trying to go as fast as she could. Walking a faster pace then normal, her normal pace was still fast, so it was almost a jog. She nodded and finally spoke up, "In that case, let us walk the halls, till we find something interesting?" She asked with a small smile on her face. He was funny, just because he was a perfect didn't mean that other students, like herself couldn't go wandering on her own. The only difference was that she had to sneak around, he didn't. "Good point." She agreed with him, when he agreed to walk down the halls with her, she followed as so and he headed for the exit of the dining hall. "So..." She started when they left the dining hall and entered the halls. "Is McCoy your first and last name? Or is it a nickname?"

It was okay if it was none of her business but she was just wondering. McCoy was an interesting name after all. I gave him my name... I wonder if he will tell me if I give him my nickname in return. "I can't remember if I gave my full name or not, again I'm Amelia Ramos, but you can just call me Amy if you want. In fact, I'd rather you call me Amy... I sure hope you don't have a girl friend McCoy. I'll be hurting if you do." She hadn't realized till a second later that she had said it out loud. Oh well... She stopped for a moment to look at the walls, to see if there were paintings on the wall. Nope. Or she didn't see any on the walls where they stood.

McCoy was again startled by her. But maybe that wasn't such a bad thing... He quickened his own pace to keep up with her, feeling a bit more at ease when he was at her side, even if he did assume he looked awkward as they went. It was alright. He was beside a pretty girl. They'd probably assume there was some emergency that he had to handle.

"Alright, through the halls, fine with me,

[/color]" he nodded. It didn't seem that entertaining to talk at the quickened pace, at least not about going through the halls... Maybe there was another topic. He was about to suggest something when she asked him what his name really was, essentially. Did she know? Hesitantly, he paused, considering the question. It was harmless, sort of... or was it possible she had some strange motive for asking? No, that was crazy, what motive could a person really have? And what use would the name do her other than, perhaps, to torment him further. She didn't seem like the type.

"The prefects call me by my last name... Have since I got here. Didn't ask why, and I don't really mind. But my first name's Nash.[/color]" McCoy answered. He smiled when she said she wanted to be called Amy. "Alright, Amy it is.[/color]" Whether she would have stopped or not, he stopped when she said she'd hurt him if he had a girlfriend. He didn't and he would have liked to keep it that way... or at least, he would have liked to before he was roommates with Darrian. Now, he wasn't so certain. Breifly he tried to consider what Darrian would do in a moment like this. She seemed to be giving him time as she stopped and examined the walls. Darrian's words didn't come to him like magic, so his cheeks brightened in a blush and he stammered his reply.

"Ah.. Well, no.. I don't, but uh, y'know, prefect and everything- people assume I'm not a nice guy, so, kinda scares them off...[/color]" If he could have kicked himself for that stuttered rambling sentence, he would have. He decided just to keep quiet and hope for the best. With any luck his blush would fade and he'd be fine in just a moment.[/size][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Amelia hadn't realized that she had passed him when they had entered the hall but didn't bother to slow down. McCoy had caught up, giving her more of a reason not to notice how slow he had been going compared to her. It seemed like she was being rude by walking so fast so she slowed down her pace, allowing him to slow down if he wished, but if he chose to stay at a fast pace she would start a fast pace again. She walked a slow pace as they walked down the halls. She smiled when he gave her, his name. "I like Nash, but if you want I'll call you McCoy. Which would you prefer?" She asked looking at him as they continued walking. She was caught off guard when he had stopped. Maybe I should think before I speak next time, and make sure I think and not talk out loud.

She felt a bit better when she looked back at him, and seen him blush. She giggled, "You don't scare me McCoy." She smiled back at him. She didn't point out that she had noticed his blush, instead she continued on. "I've been down these halls so many times... Even though I pretty much live here. It never gets old, even if it doesn't change much." She spoke up, looking at him she waved for him to follow her as they continued on. Just because he was a perfect didn't mean he had been down these halls more then her. She had been here since ten after all, but then again she didn't really leave her dorm or search around the place until she was fourteen mostly because they refused to let her skip grades.
