Liam closed his eyes lightly as she turned away from him towards the door, his fist clenching and unclenching. As Aura had spoke, Liam had been keeping an eye on her emotional state. There were undertones of anger, most likely at Ashford and its monstrous practices, protectiveness and confidence as well. But also calm, where she'd fairly had unease rolling off her in waves when the two had started talking. That meant she trusted him; her defenses were down. He barely heard her talk as she looked at the auditorium doors, his mind racing a mile a minute. This was it, the moment that the whole plan hinged on. He'd hoped that he would be able to wrap things up without the need for the agents, but they would have to do. Time was short, and to her credit Aura was far too observant for him to simply surprise. The boy was relatively sure force wouldn't go his way as well. But a distraction, a distraction might work.
Liam had, quite honestly, never felt this way. He kept a tight lid on his emotions, but in a tiny corner of his mind his heart was twisting. The amount of times he'd ever felt guilt over a course of action in his life was a sum total of one. Until now. He was about to do something that his sister might never forgive him for. Though ironically, it was all to help her fulfill the very goal she'd just stated. Maybe once she saw the endgame she'd forgive him. Maybe one day she'd even trust him again, but what he was about to do would take a long time to heal. He bit the inside of his cheek and opened his eyes again just as she turned around, smiling first. "I have to admit, your resolve is...contagious. But bringing down the government won't be easy." Internally he held his breath as the code phrase passed his lips. "Ashford always has something waiting in the wings. A-"
He intentionally caught his words just as he made out the agents forms shifting in the shadows. Then, the coup de grĂ¢ce. He let a single look of surprise, panic and shock cross his face. It was a look he'd seen on others' faces enough times to replicate it perfectly; ironic that he was playing the part of the surprised one this time. "Wha-" He cut his words again, waited until Aura inevitably turned to face the surprise guests and then moved, stepping forward, slipping the needle from his sleeve and plunging it into an exposed vein on her neck, pressing down the plunger. I'm sorry, Aura. ...Queen to King's pawn.
