A lone little girl stood in the middle of what had became a battle field. Her dress stained in blood and her eyes wide as she watched the fighting around her. She didn't know what was happening. Didn't understand it. All she knew was there were humans, and they were everywhere. She crouched among the bodies and buried her face in her arms. Her memories haunting her. Shaking her. She was alone.
Chirrrip. The sound brought her out of her daze, followed by hot spurts of breath on her cheek. A small bunny-like creature with horns clung to her shoulder. His once white fur faring no better than her dress.
"Mio..." She slowly rose to her feet and fully awoke from her daze. Running full tilt towards the majority of the other students. She was to new to the school to know anybody, but any fellow gifted was safer than them.
She hopped over a rolling body and glanced back in time to see it's distorted face. The likes of which would normally traumatize a girl her age, yet she felt nothing other than curiosity as to what had caused it. When she glanced up the hill she saw a woman standing there. Defiant and cool despite the battle. She watched the woman in wonder as she commanded two men confidently, like the Empress in her stories she had tucked away under her bed.
It wasn't until someone grabbed her arm that she realized she still wasn't in a safe zone. The armored agent spun her around and raised a gun to her head, but there he hesitated. The gun lowering slightly.
And that was all it took. A human was touching her. The little girl let out scream in fear and pulled back just as a large hellhound solidified beside her. It's gaping jaws snapping the man up by his neck as if he were no more then a pesky mouse. Within two snaps the man disappeared down it's gullet.
Devi knelt behind it's forearm, her face buried in it's pitch black fur as she tried to steady her breathing. Mio making soft chirping noises in an effort to console her. She had to get away from them, from the humans. She stood on shaky legs and stood a step out from under her guardian, her thoughts clear in her head. As if reading her emotions the hellhound took off into the fray, snapping up any agents that dare come close.
Devi trembled and tried to get her bearings. Where had the Empress gone?
There! She could see her with another girl. They were going somewhere. She wanted to be near the Empress. It was safe there.
Without hesitation she took off across the battlefield. Dodging and jumping over the bodies that now dotted the clearing, nothing in her mind except reaching the woman. She had long since decided to follow her.
