Basics
Name: Rosanjin Shidehara
Nicknames: Jin, Hunter (in reference to his powers)
Age: 17
Birthday: January 24, 1996
Grade: 10th
Power:
1) Psychic Constructs - Jin possesses the ability to create tangible extensions from his mind, made out of psychic energy. These constructs can take a variety of forms, from a sword or shield, to a cup or screwdriver. Jin can create any kind of construct that he wishes, with two stipulations. 1) The item can not exceed his own personal dimensions; basically it can not be larger than his body. As an example, he could create a knife, but not a ballista. 2) If the construct is a specific item, he must have physically seen and handled it at least once before, and must be at least familiar with how it works or what it is used for. If it has one or two moving parts, he must have an understanding of the concept of the device, and how the parts work together. At his present level of skill, Jin is capable of creating constructs which involve simpler machinery, like guns (which increases the range and speed the construct can attack with) and utility machines, like for example a drill. However, Jin is limited to machinery which uses technology currently known, and he must still understand how the device he is making works. All of Jin's constructs appear a deep purple color, with a white glow around their edges.
Each construct takes concentration and mental energy to initially create. The larger and more complex the construct in question is, the more of each it takes to generate. Once created, Jin's constructs become an extension of his subconscious mind, and thus require little concentration to maintain or disengage. Passive items like a coffee cup or a ball are more or less indefinitely usable, as their use requires very little abuse to the item in question. However, actively used items like tools, shields, or weapons, sap Jin of mental energy every time they used, since their use does require abuse to the item. The more damage is dealt to the item with every use, the more energy is sapped from Jin. For example, Jin would only be able to maintain a shield at present for 7-10 consecutive heavy blows before the strain required him to disengage it or risk being rendered unconscious. Once he is forced to disengage a construct, he requires time to recover his focus before he can create another. Prolonged use of an active construct will cause fatigue and headache upon disengaging it, regardless of whether he is forced to do so or not.
In addition, the effectiveness of the items he creates is limited by his mental strength at the time. Were he drunk, drugged, sick, or otherwise mentally impaired, his constructs would be weaker, and sap more energy from him with each use. Conversely, mentally strengthening exercises such as meditation would increase his focus and stability, allowing him to make more effective and durable constructs. Finally, any weapon he creates and uses against a person, whether it be a sword, a slingshot, or a bow and arrow, does not deal physical damage. Rather, it inflicts mental harm upon them. A hit from one of his weapons causes pain, with its intensity varying depending upon Jin's intentions, but no physical injury. Hits from his weapons also make it difficult to concentrate and think clearly. While the pain and mental damage from his weapons are capable of knocking someone out, or even rendering them catatonic, he is currently incapable of killing. The effects of his weapons CAN also be somewhat affected by a person's mental fortitude. Someone with incredibly strong willpower, someone trained to resist torture, or another person with psychic abilities and a strong mind could resist them to a degree, or even completely ignore them; that however would require extreme mental strength.
2) Psychic Navigation - Jin possesses the ability to mentally "tag" a person or object, leaving a psychic imprint on them/it, allowing him to more easily track and find whatever he has "tagged." For this ability to work, he must make skin to skin contact or touch the object in question at least one time, and for at least 10 seconds. This allows him the time he needs to concentrate and leave his psychic imprint. Once this is done, so long as the item or person is not ridiculously far away or out of his physical ability to reach, he can locate and find his target. The ease of this depends on whether or not the area he is in has been "mapped." If it has not, he only gets a general direction of his target, growing stronger and more accurate the closer he gets.
Jin can also use his power of psychic navigation to "map," creating a mental floor plan of an area in question. There is no limit to the area-size that Jin can map, however he must have physically been in every part of the area, and been alert and concentrating with the express purpose of mapping it. When this mental map is combined with a "tag" on a person or item, he can find them/it almost as if a GPS were giving him directions to their exact location. Tracking in this way requires intense concentration however, since he must focus both on his target, and the mental map of the area he is searching.
3) Psionic Blasts - Jin possesses the ability to create destructive blasts of psychic energy, which can be used both offensively as a form of attack. The properties of the blast change depending on how he utilizes it, but overall unlike his constructs, these blasts *do* cause physical damage to people and can damage objects that they hit, rather than just make physical contact with them.
Jin can project these blasts through one of two means, the properties and limitations of the blast changing depending on how he uses it. If he projects the blast independently, usually by use of his hands, the blast deals significantly more physical damage to the things it touches, and does not inflict psychic pain like his constructs do. However, these blasts require more energy, and also require a sort of channeling time in order for him to use. The length of the channeling time and energy required increases with the bore (size of affected area) and power of the blast in question. At present, Jin can only project a maximum of 5 blasts in this manner before he needs recharge time. Pushing past his point will cause him severe pain, and risk of unconsciousness or temporary mental damage. The second way Jin can project these blasts are through a priorly created construct. When performed this way, the blast requires much less energy, but also deals much less physical damage. It also carries the properties of the construct, though to a lesser extent. This means a construct made this way does not deal great mental or physical damage, but an average amount of both. For example. If the blast were being fired from a gun, the normal attacks from whcih would inflict mental pain akin to a taser charge, the blast would hit and feel like a heavy physical blow. It would not hit with the energy of a gunshot, nor would it still feel like a full on taser charge. There is no channel time for a blast delivered in this manner.
Member Group: Battle Front
Canon or not: Not
Appearance:
Rosanjin Shidehara stands at a height of about 5'9", and weighs in at 143 lbs. His frame and build are slim, although he is by no means physically frail or unhealthy. He takes good care of himself, and exercises regularly. Thus, he is very fit, and quite strong and toned for his size. He has slightly longer than average arms and legs, as well as dextrous hands and fingers. He has strong shoulders with a well proportioned neck and torso. His face is angular in shape, with a more triangular jaw line and a smaller chin. He has a smaller, more triangular nose as well, and high cheekbones. His eyes are a light golden brown color, with thinner eyebrows, which are higher set on the outside. His hair is light, dusty brown, and quite long for a boy, reaching down slightly past the base of his neck. At the front and sides it is messily styled, with bangs which fall to cover much of his forehead and frame his face. A single long lock of hair falls between his eyebrows, reaching the top of his nose.
In general, Jin dresses conservatively when not in his uniform. He has learned the hard way to always be ready for a fight, and thus dresses accordingly. He can most usually be found wearing well-fitted jeans or slacks, with tighter t-shirts or long sleeved shirts to minimize the amount of loose material, and athletic shoes. One accessory which he always wears is a black choker, a reminder of his life before coming to the school. He prefers the colors black, deep red and blue, and white.

Overall Personality:
Jin is, in general, a very serious, self-contained person. He keeps to himself whenever possible, and often comes off as nonchalant or even cold at times. This however is less because he dislikes people as a whole or company, and more so because he attributes more value to improving himself than he does to reaching out to others. He hates to feel useless or incapable, and so is very tough on himself when it comes to improving his own abilities. Most of his time is spent in pursuits that will help him to master his power, or improve on himself personally. This can be both a strength and a weakness because it makes him a fast learner and a very determined person, but also nonchalant towards others and very over critical of himself.
Jin is not very social or good at making friends, but this is for good reason. Thanks to events prior to coming to this school, he has severe trust issues, and thus finds it very difficult to make connections with anyone. As a result, he is quite awkward in social situations, and not easy to get to know. This makes it difficult for him to work in teams or to lead others, because he tends to follow his own ideas and plans, and leave others out of his thinking process. However, he does have a strong sense of duty, particularly to the Battle Front movement. Though he prefers to handle things solo, if his duty or circumstance requires him to work with others, he will do his best to put his issues aside and do so; he is not always successful in that regard however. When he does have free time, Jin prefers to spend it by himself. He enjoys calm, relaxing activities such as listening to classical music and practicing meditation. This helps to make him the calm, rational person that he usually is.
There are few things that really make Jin angry, or cause him to lose his cool. One thing that will do that is manipulative people. His history has caused Jin to be extremely wary of people's intentions and goals. This gives him an advantage in that he is good at reading people and situations. However, it also means that he can not stand people who use others frivolously and selfishly to reach their goals or get what they want. Anyone who does this will instantly become an enemy of Jin's, and that is not a good place to be.
History
Family Members/guardians:
Father - Yamada Shidehara
Mother - Akane Masaharu (deceased)
History:
Jin was born in Japan to a young woman by the name of Akane Masaharu. Though Jin's memories of his mother are very short, he remembers her as a beautiful, but very sad, very scared woman. During the few years that he spent with his mother, they moved around a lot, sometimes to Tokyo, and sometimes other parts of Japan. This happened often, but of course at that time, Jin was too young to question or understand why that was. Akane did her best to take care of her son, but their time together was short lived. At age 7, when they moved back to Tokyo for a second time, Jin's life changed forever. Their home was raided by a group of Yakuza thugs. In this struggle was when Jin's powers first manifested themselves. It was late at night, and the men that broke into he and his mother's home went for his mother first. He saw through a crack in his door as his mother tried to fight them off with a kitchen knife, but was over powered, stabbed with the same knife, and shot to death. The men then came for him. The first to try and grab him got a surprise though. The image of the knife his mother had tried to protect them with, burned already into his young mind, came to life in his hands in a purple-white flash. Instinctively he struck out, and the thug fell to the ground, writhing in agony. Before he had time to realize what he had done, the other men knocked him out.
When Jin came to, he found himself in a warehouse. There, he was introduced to his father, Yamada Shidehara. He was a Yakuza boss, whom his mother had gotten involved with years before. When she had gotten pregnant, she had stolen money from him and run, hoping to get her child away from the life that he would be forced into within the crime syndicate. Unknown to his mother, Yamada had a power of his own - he was a powerful telepath. Knowing his son would likely have abilities as well, Yamada had tracked the two down, determined to have his son. He was intrigued and impressed with his son's abilities, and decided that he would use him as a tool to further the crime syndicate's interests. That was when the training began. Jin was subjected to terrible tests of his abilities. He was made to see how long he could maintain a construct the size of his own body before collapsing, how much pain he could inflict, how he himself handled pain. Jin was, as a young child, pushed to the brink of consciousness and sometimes past it, many many times; all in an effort to turn him into a weapon of Yakuza. He was warned that if he did not comply with any order given to him, he would be killed. There were too many thugs for him to disable, and nowhere to run even if he did escape. From the day his father took him, the warehouse that he awoke in became his cage.
By age 12, training was all Jin knew. He was too beaten down to fight back, and too afraid of his father, who had often done horrible things to him within his mind, to "toughen him up." It was only by luck that he hadn't been forcefully addicted to any drug, as Yamada knew they would damage his concentration and weaken his ability. It was at this age that his father began to involve him in the Yakuza's "business transactions." His power made him perfect to serve as an enforcer. He was made to torture and extort anyone who owed his father or the syndicate money through his power, and was beaten if he refused. His father had him educated, and trained in martial arts, to make him a more effective tool. Though he was forced to do horrible things, Jin never let go of the hope that he would one day escape. His chance came at 15 years old. He was on a job in the city, overseeing protection on a drug drop off, when the police raided the building. The officers quickly gained the upper hand on their small group, as they were surprisingly well equipped, and Jin took the opportunity to run away, escaping the building through a window while the groups fought.
As it turned out, Jin had run out of one trap and into another. The Japanese government had in fact recieved word of him, through a mole within his father's outfit. They had set up the sting operation specifically to capture him. He had never roamed the city on his own, and quickly got lost after escaping the building. Not twenty minutes into his "escape," he found himself surrounded by government agents, and after fighting briefly he was forced to the ground and cuffed. To his surprise, the government did not want him dead. Rather, he was to be sent to some facility in the pacific, where he would be "trained." Jin knew right away what that meant. He was still to be a weapon, just for someone else. When he reached the school, he discovered that he was not the only gifted person being abused and caged, to be used later. This infuriated him, but once again he was in a position of no escape. He was on a remote island, and surrounded by the Perfects, who would no doubt put him down if he tried to escape.
After being at the school for a year, Jin discovered that there was a movement, fighting back against the Perfects, and the government that was trying to keep him, and all gifted people, locked in their island cage. It didn't take him long to approach the Battle Front leader, asking to be allowed to help. By now the entire school knew of his history, his parentage, and his abilities. The group was reluctant to allow him to join due to his social issues and inability to work with people. However, his training and abilities were invaluable assets in a soldier, and this war would most definitely be won by soldiers. They allowed him to join, and he has been doing his best to fight the tyranny within the school ever since.

"Still sure you're going to kill me? I'll tell you what. Now I'll give you one last chan-" Rein didn't get a chance to finish before the breath was knocked from his lungs. The thug seemed to be far beyond listening. He was fully feral, unleashing a snarl as he closed the distance far quicker than Rein had expected, landing a blow directly in the center of his chest. Rein cursed himself for letting his confidence get the better of him, as he sailed through the air. He managed to turn a somersault, sliding to a stop on his feet a short distance away. He was surprised. That blow would have knocked a normal man unconscious - that had been his aim. Something was different about this thug. He fully removed his cloak now, his black and silver outlined shirt and black slacks helping him to blend further into the shadows. He rubbed his chest, a fierce smile crossing his face. "That hurt." He could feel rage and what was almost a fierce pleasure rising in his chest now. Without another word he raised his hand, a red, circular glow appearing over it. He ran at the thug, extending his arm and releasing the power of his materia. A tongue of fire extended out from his hand, roaring towards the man. He jumped back, but not fast enough. Rein disengaged the spell and dropped into a slide on the slick stones of the alleyway. He slid underneath the tongue of fire as it dissipated, coming up just underneath the thug, who was still mid air. He braced his feet against the ground and exploded upwards, slamming his shoulder into the thug's chest. He flew backwards, and landed on his feet, dazed but still looking fierce. He snarled and ran forwards, but Rein was already there.
He slammed the hilt of his sword into the man's chin, stunning him again. Then he slashed once, twice, three times, as quickly as he could, all three cuts slicing across the man's torso in a crisscross pattern. Rein paused to sheathe his sword, then spun behind him and put him in a choke hold. The man was done, bleeding profusely and gurgling now. Rein dragged him to a brighter portion of the alley a short ways ahead, and threw him to the ground so that he could see his face. "Now, I want to know where the rest of you are. Tell me!" The man wasn't dead yet, but he wasn't talking either, his mouth working, forming nonsense shapes, but no sound coming out. "Damn it!" He cursed himself again. He had allowed the battle to sweep him away, and hadn't thought of leaving the man his faculties, or not killing him for that matter. But as he looked closer at his face, he realized he had a bigger problem. The man's eyes, still alive, were not green like his. But there was a very faint glow behind his brown irises. And as he breathed heavily, Rein could see pointed teeth in his mouth, almost as if they'd been filed to point. This man wasn't a SOLDIER. But Rein wasn't exactly sure what he WAS. He did know what thing for sure though. Something was definitely going on here, behind the scenes. And he was going to find out what.
