There are parts of the past that one needs to bury and hide away so that they never see the light of day again. There are others the weave together with the present to make you who you are. And still, there is another part that only bubbles to the surface every once in a while. In specific situations where memories can overwhelm you or give you the strength you need to get through the day. The latter of the three was currently occurring to a Miss Veronica Knox as she stared at the cloths laid out on her bed.
When she was little she had been the average three year old girl who loved dressing up as her favorite princess or even just to have something to twirl around in. That little girl had bubbled to the surface when she heard that there was going to be a masquerade dance at the school for this Halloween. So, she took it upon herself to create an office that was somewhat inspired from a mad hatter with a slight gothic twist. With a quick glance at the clock she changed from her fuzzy shorts and tank top into her outfit for the evening.
The dress was on the shorter side, the end of the skirt coming just above mid-thigh. Part of the dress appeared like a red and black plaid corset, tightened by the black ribbon along the front of the dress. The skirt then extended with layers of the same pattern with a solid black layer over top of it all. It fit snuggly against her thin body, emphasizing her curves a tad more than normal. She had a pair of black gloves, laced together with red ribbon. Instead of heels she wore a pair of dark brown boots. There was a black choker necklace against her pale neck. And to tie it together was a black hat, embellished with a long red ribbon that hung past her shoulders and a feather.
The last thing she put on before she exited her dorm was the required mask. An elegant black mask embellished with small jewels and fitted with two black ribbons. She had fun with the outfit and it was good to step out of her normal shoes for once. A small smile was placed on her lips as she made the short walk to the gym. Once entering a small amount of excitement started to build in her chest, her first actual school event and it was a masquerade dance. At least it was one good thing, considering everything that had occurred that landed her in this school.
She wandered over to the punch, filling a cup and taking a sip quickly realizing that it was spike. Laughing lightly she stayed by the table for a few minutes until she was sufficiently buzzed and able to relax. After a moment she entered the crowd and began dancing, not particularly minding that she was on her own for once. It felt nice to only have to worry about her own actions, though she wasn’t worrying enough apparently as she bumped into someone else. She felt a cool splash of liquid cover a small part of her shoulder. Looks like someone lost their punch. Spinning around she looked towards the person, rubbing her shoulder off, “Sorry about that! Do you want me to get you another?” Without thinking about it she started dabbing at the punch stains on the other person's clothing with her gloves, attempting to fix it.
