Basics
Name: Darius Pacholski
Nicknames: Doctor Dweeb
Age: 17
Birthday: 31st August
Grade:12th
Powers:
Anatomical Intuition- Darius has an intuitive understanding of human anatomy. Just by looking at someone he can infer their overall health including any medical conditions or physical weaknesses they may possess. He can create a mental map of the body and note all of its physical processes on an individual basis. This is a passive power that he can activate at will and requires little effort on his part. It allows him to gather information about an individual's biological structure, but it does not give him any power over biological functions. At best this power can be used as a diagnostic tool, but it does not render him capable of influencing the body on its own.
Chi Manipulation- This power allows Darius to put his understanding of the human body to work. Darius has the ability to manipulate the pathways through which the body's internal energy, known as "chi", flows. By striking certain points on the body Darius can disrupt the natural flow of energy and wreak all kinds of havoc. If done correctly, Darius can paralyse his opponents, knock them unconscious, or even put a temporary block on their powers by targeting the proper pressure points and hitting them with the right amount of force at the right angle. However, his power is useful for more than just destructive purposes. Darius can relax tense muscles, alleviate pain, and promote healing by applying acupressure techniques to the right areas of the body.
Using this power requires extensive knowledge of the body and how energy flows within it. While Darius's anatomical intuition helps him see where chi is concentrated in the body, it cannot tell him how manipulating that chi will affect his opponent. Because of this Darius studies often, but there are hundreds of pressure points that all have different effects and no two bodies are exactly the same. Additionally, Darius must physically touch someone in order to use his power. He must be quick and accurate with his jabs if he wants his power to be effective at all. His influence on the body is temporary as chi self-corrects over time, but as a general rule of thumb it takes about 10 minutes for the affects of his ability to wear off. Bigger blocks may take up to 30 minutes for the body to correct naturally, and healing powers meant to relax muscles and alleviate pain can last for hours depending on the intensity of the injury. As of now, Darius can only manipulate the chi of others, but in the future he may gain some control over his own (we will cross that bridge when we come to it).
Enhanced Reflexes- Contrary to Darius's less-than-athletic appearance, the boy has been gifted with enhanced reflexes. This power is related to enhanced speed, but differs in the fact that it is strictly reactionary. It only activates when Darius is in danger of being hit by something, whether it be a foot, fist, or projectile sent his way. In order to use this ability, Darius must be able to see the object in question. He cannot react to something that he doesn't know exists. Furthermore, those with speed powers that go beyond the powers granted by Peak Human Condition may be too fast for Darius to react to. Through training Darius will be able to improve on this skill to the point where he may be able to match those with enhanced speed, but he will still be slower than someone whose powers give them light or sonic speed.
Member Group: Prefect
Canon or not: No
Appearance: Darius is a rather unremarkable specimen. Standing at 5'10 and weighing in at 170 pounds, Darius possesses the body and fashion sense of a middle-aged business man. His dark hair is well maintained and styled conservatively. He has a round face with a soft chin, dark blue eyes, and a fair, doughy complexion. A pair of thick glasses dominates his face and at times his head seems to be more glasses than face. He is broad-shouldered and dense, his body type neither thin nor bulky but somewhere in between. Although he is not especially gifted when it comes to athletics, he does possess a certain sense of precision and fluidity in his motion that seems almost graceful.
The school uniform suits Darius surprisingly well. Even when out of uniform he tends to wear collared shirts with ties and dress pants. On the occasional day where he's feeling more casual he may ditch the geeky get-up for a graphic t-shirt (usually featuring one of his favourite comic book characters) and a pair of jeans. He can usually be seen wearing a wristwatch, but doesn't care much for accessories. Overall, he is not afraid to embrace his dorky-ness, and, in fact, he seems to take pride in it.
Personality
Use at least six positive and negative characteristics and give a one sentence explanation. Also include at least one strength and one weakness.[/b]- Above all, intelligence is the one quality that Darius values in himself and others. He is a fast learner and a diligent student. He has a passion for learning and teaching others and his love of knowledge drives him to learn as much as possible. However, Darius is only intelligent within the normal-human sense. He cannot compare to those with supernatural gifts, but his smarts would be considered well above average when compared to the normal population.
Positive:
* Ambitious- Darius sets high goals for himself. He loves medical science and is determined to follow in his parents' footsteps and become a medical doctor. Even in his day-to-day life, Darius likes to challenge himself. He enjoys intellectual challenges, puzzles, and solving problems.
* Innovative- As much as Darius loves hard science, he can't help but be taken in by the more creative applications. After all, what good is knowing something if you can't apply it? Darius loves engineering new ways of doing things and improving on what's already been done.
* Enthusiastic- When it comes to his interests Darius is a true nerd. His enthusiasm for science, pop-culture, and learning is unrivaled. Although he can become long-winded and annoying when talking about his favourite topics, his passion is oftentimes what motivates him to keep working towards his goals even in the face of adversity.
* Cool under pressure- Darius can seem like a spastic nerd most of the time, but in an emergency his professional demeanour comes through. Having grown up around hospitals he understands that keeping a level head can mean the difference between life and death. When faced with a crisis he can be counted on to stay calm and use what he knows to the best of his ability.
* Outspoken- When something seems wrong Darius isn't afraid to speak out against it. Even with the threat of retribution, Darius would rather suffer the consequences of his actions than the consequences of inaction. With that being said, he's also not the type to start needless fights. He doesn't believe in purposely antagonising others (unless, maybe, it's for the sake of a good debate) but he's not afraid to question authority when he disagrees or sees something wrong with their decisions. Although sometimes this trait can come across as insubordination or just plain "being difficult", Darius believes a level of healthy skepticism isn't just necessary, but commendable. It takes a certain strength of character to stand up for your beliefs even if you kind of look like a jackass in the process.[/ul]
Negative:
* Argumentative- The kid loves to debate. Sometimes this gets him in trouble or simply becomes annoying. He'll argue just about anything, even things he doesn't really believe in just for the sake of having a debate. His constant challenging of other people's opinions or ideas earns him few friends.
* Socially dependent- In spite of his apparent confidence and "I'd rather be right than popular" attitude, Darius is always looking for approval from his peers. Perhaps it's human nature or perhaps it's simple narcissism, but Darius craves the admiration of those around him. He is in love with the idea of being loved, and he suffers under the delusion that people will like him only if he's smart enough. This goes back to the fact that he values intelligence above all other traits, and he seems to think that others place the same importance on intelligence as he does. His fatal flaw is that he has a black-and-white view of the world, and he cannot separate his own beliefs from the beliefs of others and hold them in equal regard. There is always a definite right and a definite wrong.
* Insecure- Related to the above trait, Darius isn't quite as confident as he would like others to believe. There is always a hint of self-doubt lingering in the back of his mind which only exacerbates his attitude of superiority. He is afraid of his own insecurity. He fears failure, incompetence brought on by ignorance. However, Darius has to learn that sometimes it's OK to be wrong. He must accept that failure is a part of life and no matter how much he knows, he will always be closer to knowing nothing than to knowing everything.
* Poor eyesight- Pretty self-explanatory, Darius's eyesight is weaker than average. He has to wear his glasses at all times otherwise the world is a confusing mess of unfocused shapes and colours.
* Physically unimpressive- Darius has never been good at sports and working out doesn't appeal to him. Although he tries to eat right, he's not in great physical shape. He's never had much of a reason to devote time to his body when he'd rather spend his time studying.[/ul]
Likes:
* Medical Science- All his life Darius has been fascinated by the body and how it works. Biology is his favourite subject in school and he spends a lot of his free time studying.
* Debating- As mentioned a few times already, Darius loves to debate with people. There are very few things more thrilling for him than winning a well-reasoned argument.
* Martial Arts- Darius is not a martial artist, but he does love martial art movies and would like to learn. Maybe he'll get his opportunity during his time at Ashford.[/ul]
Dislikes:
* Sports- In general, any sport where keeping score is important bores Darius. He doesn't understand the appeal of a bunch of sweaty guys running around like idiots trying to win imaginary points, but, hey, to each their own.
* Pseudoscience- It's almost ironic that the nerd's powers are based on a psuedoscientific practice because the kid loathes the very idea of "homeopathic remedies". He believes in hard science and observable, record-able proof. Anything else is simple coincidence.
* Milk- The kid hates milk. Perhaps he has some tragic, dairy-related backstory, or perhaps he's just lactose intolerant. (Spoiler alert: he's lactose intolerant.) [/ul]
Extra: I think I pretty much covered it all. Wasn't this application template supposed to make it shorter? o.o

History
Family Members/guardians:
Father: Charles Pacholski, M.D.
Mother: Charlotte Pacholski, M.D.
History: Doctor Pacholski and Doctor Pacholski met for the first time in medical school. Neither of them had time for a relationship so they mostly ignored each other outside of class. It wasn't until long after graduation that they realised they wanted to share more than notes with each other. A brain surgeon and cardiologist respectively (opening people's hearts and minds since 1995!), the two doctors married later in life and eventually produced the awkward sack of genes that became Darius. The couple loved their little son, but agreed that one was enough.
Darius grew up in a gated community near Amherst, Massachusetts. His parents worked at the local hospital and did quite well for themselves. They could afford to send Darius to private school where he excelled in academics, but never at making friends. He was never really lonely, though. Darius got along well with his parents and they made sure to balance family time with their busy work lives. Still, it was clear that knowledge was important to the family and Darius was always pushed to do well in school. While Darius was more than willing to rise to the occasion, it lead to him being about as well-rounded as your average block of cement.
However, that's not to say that the boy was entirely friendless. At school Darius managed to earn a small handful of nerdy friends to call his own, a little group united by a mutual love of comic books and hatred for a certain boy by the name of Christian Flemmings. Flemmings and his Droogs formed the school's patron pack of assholes who delighted in tormenting Doctor Dweeb and his companions. On a daily basis, glasses were snapped, lunch money was stolen, and swirlies were delivered like wet, toilet-y justice upon Darius and his friends. Fighting back seemed impossible so day after day the nerds spent their school hours ducking and dodging Flemmings and his gang. But then, things started to change.
Darius had always been a late bloomer, so it wasn't surprising that his powers didn't develop until he was older. Perhaps it was some divine act of mercy that saved him from developing his anatomical intuition while at the peak of puberty, or maybe his genes were simply slow to wake up, but either way, Darius's powers did not begin to appear until he was 16. Over time, Darius started to notice certain things about people that those around him were blind to. All he had to do was look at a person and his mind would be flooded by a sudden influx of information about various biological processes. At first he chalked it up to sleep deprivation and too many hours with his nose stuck in his text books, but as his intuitions were proven correct time and time again, he was reluctantly forced to accept that he had a gift that went beyond scientific understanding.
As time passed, Darius became more accepting of his intuition, beginning to trust his instincts when it came to what he perceived. However, what he discovered next was almost impossible for him to believe. The concept of "chi", or life energy, was something Darius had only come across in Kung Fu movies and comic books. Never had he considered it a legitimate biological feature. That was, until he developed the ability to see it for himself. Darius's anatomical intuition granted him the ability to see the energy flowing within the people around him. At first, it was difficult for him to wrap his mind around. The energy didn't seem to subscribe to any natural substance Darius had ever known, and yet it was impossible to deny its existence when he could see it flowing before his very eyes.
With this latest discovery still fresh in his mind, Darius was only too eager to impress his friends with his abilities. Fun games like "I bet I can guess your blood type" and "judging by your cortisol levels I bet you have a big test after lunch" were common among the dweeblings. Meanwhile, little did they know, a threat much greater than adrenal gland secretions loomed nearby, lurking somewhere behind the school dumpster. Waiting, scheming, choking a bit on the smell of rotten garbage, Flemmings and his Droogs plotted their assault on the nerds. As their junior year of high school drew to a close, Flemmings and the Droogs needed to send the nerds off with the kind of prank that even the dog days of summer would not quickly wash from their minds.
Well, as you can imagine, the school year rapidly approached its end and finally, it was time for Flemmings and the Droogs to act. They launched their assault on the nerds on the last day of school. It was lunch time and the school's cafeteria was packed fit to burst with excitable students preparing themselves for a much needed vacation. But then, a foul stench wafted through the lunch room. A hush fell over the room. Strategically, Flemmings and the Droogs had arranged all of the school's trash bins in the lunch room, and all at once the bins were tipped and all hell broke loose. Flemmings led the charge, flinging slimy, week-old lunch meat into the crowd as the words "food" and "fight" rang out clear in the sudden silence.
The chaos of 300 private school students gagging on the stench of their own decaying lunches filled the air, but not for long as people recovered and chose to fight back. Somewhere among the chaos, Darius found himself face to face with his mortal enemy. Flemmings was only too pleased by this occurrence and Darius had no choice but to fight back as the bully made a grab for him. As if by instinct, Doctor Dweeb made a quick pivot, avoiding the grab with the kind of speed that seemed impossible for any normal human. There was a series of quick jabs and before anyone could really understand what happened, Darius stood over his unconscious opponent.
By that time a handful of teachers had arrived on scene. Darius was found still standing over Flemmings, apparently shocked by what he'd just done. The bully seemed to have suffered no external injuries, and yet it was obvious that Darius was responsible. With the school's no tolerance policy hanging over his head, Doctor Dweeb was facing expulsion from the school and a black mark on his permanent record. Things were looking bad for the ambitious young man, but then something strange happened. Sitting in the principal's office, Darius expected the worse, but instead he was offered a second chance. The principal spoke about a place called Ashford Academy for kids with special gifts. An ultimatum was presented, and I think you can fill in the rest from here because I'm too lazy to write it out. This history is atrociously long anyway.
