Basics
Name: Zaria Jankovic
Nicknames: The Ghost Girl of Zagreb
Age: 18
Birthday: October 5th
Grade: 12th
Power:
Invisibility: Simply put, Zaria is able to make herself invisible at will. It doesn’t happen all at once, not unless she’s very concentrated, but instead it will usually be as if she is fading out of existence. The parts of her that are turning invisible will begin to turn transparent, the colors almost seeming to bleed out of her thanks to her pale skin and general monotone color scheme of most of her wardrobe. Once invisible, she of course cannot be seen with the naked eye, but those who can sense things like auras and thermal energy are still able to pinpoint the ghostly girl rather easily. She is able to hold herself fully invisible for up to an hour at a time, granted she has enough energy and concentration to hold it. If she starts pushing herself into holding it longer, or if she is in a weakened state already before trying to, then this will weaken her further. For whatever reason, the power makes her heart speed up, as if it is working overtime in order to power her gift along with already powering her body. Because of this, her power makes her lightheaded when used greatly in a short span of time, and she risks making herself lose consciousness because her heart was racing too fast for her body.
Intangibility: To pair with her ability to hide herself, she has the ability to turn herself incorporeal as a ghost. She seldom does this with her whole body, as more often than not she is simply making a hand or an arm for example intangible. This has much the same appearance as her when she is turning invisible, her image fading until she seems see through and not really there, though she doesn’t cross over into invisibility, not usually anyways. When she needs to she can use her powers in conjunction with the other, though this saps her energy much faster than just using one or the other at a time. The longest she’s able to make herself intangible without “phasing back into existence,” as it were, is half an hour. When intangible she is able to phase through objects, obviously, and they are able to phase through her, however the denser those objects are, the harder of time she has passing through them and vice versa. Depending on the thickness of walls and what material they are made of, she may be able to pass right through them, or risk getting stuck. She is only able to phase through plant matter, and is in no way capable of phasing through human beings or animals, alive or dead.
Member Group: Neutral
Canon or not: Nope
Appearance: The first notable thing you notice about Zaria, is perhaps her coloring. Like her twin, she suffers from a rare genetic anomaly called Mina Harker Syndrome. Akin to albinism in a way, the syndrome attacks the melanin present in a person’s skin cells, giving them an exceedingly pale, almost grey cast. However, for whatever reason, the syndrome leaves other melanin deposits, such as those in the hair and irises, alone. It does however discolor the irises and scleras of the person, turning the former red and the latter and inky black. Not much is known about the syndrome, though it appears to only affect twins thus far.
Speaking of twins, her and Alexi are remarkably similar looking. While she is the lighter and shorter of the two, she shares the same cut as her brother. Her hair is long and often an unruly, curly mess, with the left side of her head usually kept shaven to match her brother. Like him as well, she has gotten her skin inked with old Slavic symbols on her neck, fingers, knuckles, and wrists. The same as his for the most part with maybe some variations depending on how the artist was drawing. This creates a rather matched set look to the two, though she does not mind. In fact, she likes looking similar to her brother, and it feels it brings them closer together at times. Granted, while she usually paints her nails black as well, she sometimes switches things up and goes for color. Even if it is something like charcoal gray, or darker tones of purple and red. Like the tattoos, the twins also share matching piercings.
Unlike her brother, she is not stricken with a case of severe Porphyria, and thankfully so, as she rather likes her outfits if she had to admit. Her closet is mostly blacks and greys and whites, with the occasional red flannel to pair with a slightly over sized black shirt. She has a bit of a penchant for matte black jewelry, and...darker...jewelry, so it is not uncommon for her to be seen with a little bronze casting of a bird’s skull on one of her fingers with a solid black crescent moon on another.
Personality
Positive:
* Loyal- She's extremely loyal, but most so to her brother. She refuses to leave him behind, and stays with him to keep him company on sunny days.
* Optimistic Realist- She understands how the world works and that it isn't an overall nice place, but she tries to look on the bright side.
* Kind- Despite maybe seeming cold at first, Zaria is actually quite friendly with some people, and usually doesn't have issues making friends.
* Speaks softly and carries a big stick- Though she may not be as flashy as Alexi, you shouldn't take her lightly. Even with having no combat based powers, she has a vicious temper.
* Protective- She's incredibly protective of her brother, and does her best to make sure that nothing happens to him.
[/ul]
Negative:
* Is more of a watcher- Though she is comfortable on a stage, she prefers to be in the audience.
* Shies away from big groups- She feels stifled in large groups, and maybe even a bit claustrophobic.
* Serious- She's more jovial when with Alexi, and she generally doesn't smile or laugh as much when not with him.
* Insomniac - Thanks to her twin's Porphyria she has developed a rather odd sleeping schedule because as children they would hide out during the day, Zaria being sent out to steal food for them before nightfall.
* Stubborn- She forms opinions rather fast about things and people, and it can be incredibly hard to change her mind. [/ul]
Likes:
* Rain- On rainy days it meant the circus would be closed, and her brother and her would be able to go out and play in the city.
* Cran-apple juice- It was much better than the cran-raspberry juice her brother would drink all the time in her opinion.
* The smell of popcorn- It's a bit nostalgic of her, but since the circus took them in it seemed like the smell of popcorn was everywhere, and whenever she smells it she thinks of their time in the circus.
* Burnt marshmallows- Is there really any explanation needed?
[/ul]
Dislikes:
* Heat- She's more used to colder climates, and likes bundling up in cozy hoodies.
* Chocolate- It was always too sweet for her.
* Short books- She likes to read, and books are over too quickly when they only have 200 or so pages.
[/ul]
Extra: She keeps a journal and tries to write in it every day.
History
Family Members/guardians: Alexi Jankovic, her twin brother
Parents are unknown, they came up with their surname on their own
History: The two mysterious twins were born on a cold autumn night in the capital city of Croatia, Zagreb. They were abandoned shortly after birth, and as such they have no recollection of who their mother was, or even what she looked like. For their initial years, when they couldn't much take care of themselves, they were raised in an orphanage. However, when they could walk and talk on their own and didn't need to be constantly cared for, they ran away. The caretakers of their orphanage were not the nicest, so at the young age of five they stole away in the night and hid out in an abandoned basement. This went on for Zaria doesn't know how long, really, before the gypsies came. They were passing through their part of the city, as they normally lived on the outskirts, and happened upon the twins when they were scavenging in the night. They were taken in by the makeshift community, cared for by the whole of them rather than just one person taking on the responsibility for them.
And then the circus happened. Ah, the circus. The two had snuck onto the grounds of the traveling, self contained little world of cotton candy, clowns, and the red and white stripes of canvas tents. They were enchanted by the performances, so enchanted that they had stuck around after the show had ended in order to explore more. The Ringmaster caught them soon enough, though the twins being the twins they were quite the slippery pair. Zaria turned intangible and hid behind her brother, while her brother let his proboscis out in order to try and scare him. Instead of being scared, he was amazed by the strange little oddities cowering against a ticket counter. He quickly brought them into the fold, making them a part of the circus and a regular fixture as they grew older and trained their abilities.
Time passed quickly enough, Zaria and Alexi both growing into their roles as performers and crowd pleasers as their circus traveled across most of Europe. She had begun keeping a journal shortly after them joining, wanting to make sure she recorded all her feelings and the goings on so she wouldn't forget.
And then it all came to an end. Their acts had gained in popularity over the years, and tales of their rather spectacular feats wouldn't go unnoticed for long. Thankfully, when Ashford Academy and its agents finally came for the twins it wasn't as violent as it could be. The circus remained unharmed, and they were allowed to stay together. They couldn't really ask for much more than that, as the world they knew was getting ripped forcibly away from them. They only had each other again, and the circus was becoming just a distant memory.
