She could do this. She could do this. She could...okay maybe she couldn't do this. The silver haired girl gulped as she paced around her dorm room, a book clutched in her small hands. She had checked out the book a week before and in her nature, she had finished it rather quickly. She normally tried to make all her book trips when the library wasn't as busy; usually early in the morning before classes or towards the closing hours. When there was a smaller chance of her running into a large group of people. Or any people at all, really. That was how bad her social anxiety was; to the point where she didn't want to leave her dorm room at all some days.
But, she wanted to try and get over it. Even if it was just a little bit at a time, she would...get over the worst of it. That was it, not get over it entirely or anything. But just...take little baby steps to where she didn't feel like she was going to have an anxiety attack at the thought of being caught in a crowd. Besides, that's what Jamal wanted for her; he wanted her to not be so scared of everything anymore. She wanted to make him proud, after all. And along with that, she really did want to become less helpless. Become stronger and all that jazz.
She gulped and looked over to her door, trying to take deep breaths to calm herself down. It was just the library. Even if there were students there, they would be quiet, right? That's what you did at a library; you were quiet and kept your nose in a book and just...stayed quiet. That was that. She could do this. She kept repeating the mantra as she made her way towards her door, determined to open the thing and walk through. It took her a minute or two, but she did.She was going to do this.
It took her much longer than it should have, but eventually the octopus girl was standing in front of the library, gazing up at its door with a sense of accomplishment and fear all tangled up inside of her. She made it! Now all she had to do was...you know...actually walk into the library, return her book, and pick out a new one. I can d-do this... She repeated to herself for what seemed like the four hundredth time in such a short time frame, but it seemed to be working for her so she wasn't about to stop now. She began taking tentative steps towards the doors, despite the small trickle of students filtering out of them every now and again, trying to focus on how wonderful it would feel to be able to tell Jamal she had achieved such a victory.
