Basics
Name: Drake De Luca
Nicknames: None
Age: 16
Birthday: September 14
Grade: 10th
Power:
Darkness Manipulation - This is the ability to manipulate, control, summon or generate darkness. At present, Drake is capable of “creating” very small amounts of darkness (an orb, claws on the ends of his fingers, etc.) by literally pushing small amounts of photons (light energy) away from a targeted location temporarily, but is currently very limited in this aspect. At present he is primarily able to manipulate already present shadows and darkness for use as he sees fit. His specialty most notably lies in offense. He excels at quickly and naturally bending existing shadows into tools to attack from different directions and angles. Defensively, his skills are lacking. This is partially because of his personality and partially because of his affinity when it comes to his power. He is able to create shields and the like, but is unskilled in maintaining them, and they tend to be weaker than his offensive constructs. So long as there is existing darkness to manipulate, his power takes very little energy to use. However, the “creation” of darkness requires large amounts of energy on his part, both to form and maintain, which will cause him to tire out quickly. If he is put up against a light user, the winner is determined by who is stronger. Light can overpower his abilities if its user is stronger than he, but the reverse is also true.
Sin Empowerment - This is the ability to gain power from the presence and expression of the seven deadly sins. Currently, the three that Drake draws power from are the sin of envy, the sin of wrath, and the sin of pride. If Drake is around people expressing or committing these sins, he gains power, becoming physically stronger, faster and more durable to a small extent. The true boost however, comes to his powers. Manipulating the shadows and darkness into constructs and attacking with them becomes more natural. He is able to do it quickly and more effectively, almost as if they shadows were becoming an extension of his own body. His limited ability to “create” darkness also requires less power to use. He can draw strength from multiple targets at the same time, but can only do so with up to three people at present, and they must be within close proximity to him for him to draw strength from their sins. In addition, he can not draw strength from his own sins. If fighting a person who is innocent, his power will be reduced.

Appearance:
On the outside, Drake De Luca is normally hardly threatening. In fact, he’s quite the attractive guy. He stands at a height of about 5’8”, weighing in at 138 pounds. He is slim and lean, and although not the most muscular, is in good shape. His entire shape and body line is very lean. His arms and legs are longer, making them almost whip-like in appearance. His shoulders are fairly broad, but with a slightly narrower chest region. His facial features are well proportioned, with slightly almond shaped, gray-blue eyes and a nose which is longer, but fits his face well. His mouth is small, but with well rounded lips for its size. His jaw line is higher set and more angled, but strong; his cheekbones, which are set at a normal height and slightly defined, lend themselves well to his face. His skin is paler, but not unhealthily so.
Drake’s style is generally very neat, clean and professional. He keeps his hair, which is med length (to the neck) and pitch black, well kept, with bangs which part on one side and fall to cover most of the left side of his forehead. He tends to wear suits or formal clothes almost everywhere that he goes. Most commonly, he can be seen wearing black slacks and a formal white dress shirt, usually buttoned up except for the last button, with a high collared jacket. He often wears dress shoes, but will wear neat-looking sneakers if he will be outside. He tends to stick to darker colors such as deep red, black, gray, and deep blue.
One thing to note is that Drake’s appearance changes very slightly when his sin empowerment ability is being fueled. His normally gray blue eyes become tinged with black, as if ink were leaking into and spreading throughout his irises.

Overall Personality:
Drake’s true personality is hallmarked by three traits. The first is anger. Having discovered what little of the truth he knows of his real father, as well as being now essentially exiled to Ashford after his sister’s death, Drake is bitter and angry. In particular, he disdains familial connections, being angry (and in truth perhaps jealous) with those who have close ties to their family. This anger is in large part what drives him to his destructive behavior. He finds it difficult to see good in anything, and doesn’t care to look for it. This also makes him easy to provoke into a fight, as he is rarely not ready to kill something. This also drives him to seek solitude whenever possible. Though for the sake of deception he will spend time with others, he truly hates such interaction, and prefers to be alone.
The second trait that hallmarks Drake’s personality is fear. While he is not afraid of much, the things he does fear are weakness and loss of control. He spends hours and hours training his ability to make sure that he isn’t weak, and manipulates and deceives in order to build status for himself with others. He can not stand to have a situation out of his control, and will often intervene at such times, especially if he feels threatened or at a future disadvantage in some way. These two things he is deathly afraid of, and despite his strategic nature, he will often react impulsively and violently if faced with situations dealing with either.
The third trait, and the one which results in the face that people see, is his sociopathic nature. Drake feels little to no connection to most of the people around him, nor does he desire to. This allows him to hurt, kill and deceive with no regret or guilt on his end. It also allows him to blend into the society of Ashford while not truly changing himself. In groups and when not antagonized, Drake comes off as the most normal and pleasant person in the group. He laughs, he jokes, he converses, all the while plotting, planning and hating in his mind. He is incredibly deceptive and will not hesitate to lie about just about anything. He is quite skilled in lying as well, and tends to remember the lies he has told before, which helps him to maintain his “cover.” He falls short however in any situation where he would be expected to react to someone’s emotions or share them in some way. He does not, and perhaps can not, do so. In addition, being impulsive, he can be incredibly easy to provoke. If presented with a situation where he is made to feel or it is suggested that he his weak or that he is not in control, for example if someone tried to enforce a restriction on him, Drake will react violently.

History:
Drake's past is one that lives somewhere in a dark corner of his mind that he hasn't touched in quite some time. His father and mother, Selene and Matteo De Luca, lived on the outskirts of Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was born and raised. Matteo, his step father, was no father of the year. He drank and gambled regularly at the casinos in the city, staying out late and coming home later. He was never very interested in Drake, giving most if not all of his love to his daughter Leila, Drake's older step-sister. Selene, his mother, was a beautiful woman, but very quiet and sad. Drake was told very early on that Matteo wasn't his father, but his mother always remained very secretive about her life before marrying his step-father, even to the man himself. Still, somehow, the family had the money to take care of both the children, and Drake was provided for growing up.
Most of his early life was in fact fairly normal. Leila was a fragile girl, often very sick, and so she did not attend public school. Drake did however, though he did not have an easy time of it. He was a very anti-social child from the beginning. Though very smart, and advancing in his classes, he did not seem interested in making friends, or really in anything at all beyond school work. Always the odd man out, always the quiet one, he soon began to be picked on by the other students. His mother and father were largely uninvolved in his issues at school, and truth be told, his mother could hardly be blamed. Matteo would often come home drunk, angry and disoriented, and it took all his mother's emotional energy just to deal with him. The one member of his family who Drake truly did identify with was his sister. Leila was very kind and gentle, and unlike either of his parents, was genuinely interested in his well being. When he would come home crying from being picked on by the other kids, she would hug him and kiss him on the forehead and tell him that there was nothing wrong with him, and that the students treating him that way were just lonely on the inside. She was the point of brightness in his life, and perhaps for a time, she staved off what was beginning to develop within Drake.
All that changed however, when Drake was about 10 years old. His father had come home in the middle of the day very drunk, and very angry. Drake walked in on the fight, perhaps the worst one that he had ever seen. His father was throwing things and shouting at the top of his lungs, his mother just sitting there, absorbing it all, crying. At the end of his rant, Matteo went to take Leila to the car, and Drake tried to stop him. He got a black eye for his trouble, and Matteo put Leila in the car and left. His mother just sat there, as if she were in shock. The call came several hours later. Drake's step father, driving drunk, had hit another car, killing himself, Leila, and another woman. Neither the woman nor his father mattered to Drake. But his sister...his sister was dead. The girl who had comforted him and reassured him, who'd been more of a mother to him than his own mother, was dead. It was this that set Drake down the path that he was to follow.
Soon after Leila's death, an obvious change began to come over Drake. He had been anti-social before, but it gradually turned from bad to worse. He wouldn't speak to his own mother. He began sitting in the darkest corner of his classroom, and leaving when the bell rang. And then in middle school the fights started. Of course, the bullying and being picked on didn't stop in middle school, it only increased. And with this new change in attitude came another side to him. A violent side. He was beaten more often than not, but the injuries on the children he fought with were horrible no matter who won. Gashes where he had clawed at them. Bruises and bangs bigger than his own. And when he won, he was even more merciless. For the first couple of years of middle school, he was in an out of school on the regular on suspension. What was more, his mother did nothing to help him. It was as if she had drawn into herself, like she just didn't care.
In eighth grade, Drake's life changed again when a new student came to his school. Matthew Scott seemed to make it his life's work to change Drake for the better. The very first day he was there, he singled out Drake, sitting directly across from him at the lunch table where he sat by himself. He didn't say anything, just smiled an ate his lunch. After a few days of this, Drake demanded to know who he was, which Matthew used to start a conversation. Oddly, Drake didn't feel a need to fight with Matthew. In fact after talking with him for that period, albeit reluctantly, Drake could see his sister in Matthew. He was a genuinely kind person, and had targeted Drake because he was the only one by himself. From that day on, grudgingly at first, Drake had his first friend. Although his feelings about other people didn't change, Matt had a very positive effect on him. He was able to calm him down before he jumped into a fight, even taking one for him once or twice. For a while, it helped. Until Drake's life changed again in high school, when he was 15.
It was the freshman year of high school, and while Matt was still a positive influence on Drake, his condition was getting worse and worse. Though he wouldn't push Matt away like everyone else, he became more and more introverted, spending more and more time by himself whenever possible. It was during one of these times when his power first awakened. That day Matt was home with the flu, and so when the boy came up to him, under the tree in the courtyard, and began the usual torment Matt wasn't there to help him stay calm. To his credit, Drake did try that day. Even as he was being pushed around and insulted, he tried not to fight back. It was then that he felt the anger begin in his chest. It was a different kind of anger than he had ever felt before. It was like a fire that prickled and burned, starting from his chest and radiating outward, burning as if coming through his skin. Finally he screamed and struck out at the boy and was very surprised when, from behind him, a fist seemingly formed from the shadows themselves emerged, striking the boy on the jaw. He flew back 7 feet and fell to the ground, prone. In shock at what had just happened and not wanting to draw the attention of the other students, he ran.
Eventually he found himself in an old, abandoned construction yard near his house. There, after recovering from the shock of what had just happened, the thought hit him. What kind of power had he just unlocked? After experimenting for several hours, he found that he could manipulate the darkness within shadows, bending it to his will. When Matt returned, he kept his powers to himself, acting as if everything was fine. But as the months went by, and Drake continued practicing with his abilities, he found that he liked the power. A lot. In fact, he loved it. He began staying out late after school practicing, lying to his aloof mother that he was doing extracurricular activities. He had begun to become very good at lying, both to his mother and to Matt that everything was fine. That he wasn't changing. That he wasn't spending hours at that construction site cutting and slashing and smashing everything he could. To the outside observer it seemed that he was finally normalizing a little.
It was about this time, when he was 16, that he began to wonder exactly how his mother, who did essentially nothing, was managing to keep their apartment and take care of the two of them effectively. Each month he had begun to notice that a check came in the mail. One day, he snuck out of school early, and beat the mail truck to the house. Recovering the check, he opened it up to find that it was sent from a Giovanni Rinaldi, and was marked as child support. Furious, he confronted his mother, who refused to tell him anything. After punching a hole in the wall he left, for a library that was nearby. There he looked up Giovanni Rinaldi, and found that he was a casino owner in the main city, reported on in many of the newspaper clippings that he found. He couldn't stop the thoughts flying through his head. Who was this man? If he and his mother had been with him...would Leila have died? He made up his mind. He was going to find the man, and get his answers one way or the other.
Printing out the address to the casino, he left the library to find his father. He never made it past the front steps. The parents of the child he had hit put in a call to the police. After many desks and a lot of denial, the report had ended up at Ashford Academy. After quite the struggle, resulting in serious injuries to several of his apprehenders, he was subdued, and taken to Ashford Academy. Angry as he is at having been cut off from the pleasure of making his father talk, and forced to stay somewhere he does not wish to be, it's not all bad. After all, when he burns Ashford to the ground, his father will be next.
