Warm sunshine had brought another beautiful morning to Ashford School. The Courtyard was peaceful and not many students had headed out yet. Sprinklers occasionally created small rainbows with water mist and the scent of fresh grass covered other scents. However, among the peace, something unusual was about to happen.
Not far from the entrance, next to a bench, something gleamed on the ground. Three shiny coins had been thrown on the walkway, scattered near each other without a pattern. Even though the coins seemed perfectly normal, there was a trick hidden into them. A certain trickster had attached them to the pavement with plenty of superglue. They wouldn’t even budge without some sort of super strength.
Victoria Geist, the trickster responsible for this was hiding behind the nearby bench, not that it made any difference. She was currently completely invisible, as usual, but hiding behind something made her feel safer. Even though the day had barely begun, the trickster was already weaving a new prank.
She was armed with a straw and a pocketful of paper. Her plan was simple. Anyone greedy enough to try prying the coins off would get a swift spitball to the face. That way she would get more laughs out of the old coin trick. She wouldn’t waste ammo on random people passing by though. It was much easier to hit a dummy who was standing still after all.
Every now and then tiny sprays of water from a sprinkler passed near the bench and a silhouette of a small, transparent figure flickered behind it for a short moment. Victoria was too focused on her little trap to notice the water though. Images of dumbfounded people filled her mind and quiet giggle escaped her lips. This would be so much fun.
Her daydreaming was interrupted by footsteps that were closer than usual. Someone was approaching and the prankster readied a spitball into the straw. She bit her lip in order to silence any snickers that could give her position away. Now she could only wait and see if this person was greedy enough to take the bait.
Of course, she was dearly hoping that she would get lucky on her first try.
