Basics
Name: Dakota Ray
Nicknames: Kota, Koko, shorty
Age: 15
Birthday: May 16
Grade: (7th - 12th) 10
Power:
Flight: Dakota has the ability to fly. She can fly at will, and go where she wants. She can also stay flying for a maximum of three hours, and she is working on extending that time. When flying, it uses about the same amount of energy for Dakota as walking briskly, though if flying at speeds of over 100 kmph it uses the same energy as fast running. She does not grow wings when she flies, and can fly smoothly. She is able to fly as high as she can breathe, which, for humans, is just over 20 00 meters before the lack of oxygen starts to get to them.
Enhanced speed (while in flight): When flying, Dakota has enhanced speed. She can fly up to 200 kmph, for a maximum of 20 minutes before she needs to slow to less than 100 kmph to rest. Flying at speeds over 100 kmph uses about the same amount of energy for Dakota as running fast.
Member Group: (Neutral, Battle Front, Prefect) Battlefront
Canon or not: Not
Appearance: Dakota is a shorty, barely scraping the five foot mark. She is pretty toned from all of the swimming she does and all of the scraps she gets into though. Due to the fact that she grew up in Australia, she has a light tan. Additionally, because she gets into a lot of fights, she usually has bruises somewhere, and has a few scars- particularly on her knuckles- from fighting.
Dakota has large, light amber eyes, that she usually accentuates with either eye liner or mascara, and occasionally both. That's usually all she wears for everyday makeup, but if there is a special event, she likes to doll up. She has medium length hair, that is so light brown, that in some light it looks ginger. She has a fringe that she sweeps to the side, and she usually pulls her hair up into pigtails, unless going out or something. Overall, she has a very cute face, and the fact that she is so small usually cements people's image of her that she is very cute.
In terms of the clothes she wears, when not in uniform, Dakota likes to keep it casual, but still trendy. She doesn't mind wearing pretty things like dresses and skirts, it's just more common to see her in shorts. Her wardrobe is suited to hot Australian weather, so most of her clothes show a bit of skin, but not more than necessary. She merely adjusts the amount of clothes she wears to the weather. She also likes wearing accessories like hats and big belts.
Personality
Overall Personality: Dakota is a loud, open girl, that has difficulty hiding her emotions, and usually doesn't bother trying. She will always express her opinion, and can get riled up easily, and this leads to her getting into fights. She is kind to people she has just met, but if you are rude to her, she will immediately retaliate, being the stand-offish character that she is. She has a short attention span, and as a result, is often told off by teachers at school, and so she doesn't really like it, and has no qualms about ditching when she is not in the mood for it. She also easily disregards rules she sees as pointless, but knows which ones are bad to break. Though you wouldn't guess it, people's harsh words hurt her more than she would admit, and she usually hides this by getting angry and picking fights.
Dakota is fiercely protective, particularly of her younger brother. She is also a sucker for the underdog, and even if the odds are stacked against them, will usually bet on the underdog. She despises bullies with a passion, as a result of being bullied so much, and will not back down if challenged, being a rather competitive girl. If she sees anyone else being bullied, she will usually jump in and defend them, usually without thinking, tending to follow a motto of 'Scream, fire, aim!' However, her heart is always in the right place, and she tries her best to do what she believes is right.
In spite of her bravado, there is one thing that Dakota has an immense fear of; the dark. It is not your typical 'get a fright from shadows' fear, but a fear that, if in complete dark, she will be rooted to the spot, unable to do most things. It is deeply rooted in her as a result of an event in her past. Even if it is not yet dark, but getting
dark, she will get uncomfortable. She understandably hates people knowing this fear, as she feels that people will exploit this.

History
Family Members/guardians: Sally Smith Ray, Mother. Rory Ray, Father. Nathan Ray, younger brother.
History: Dakota grew up as the older sister of Nathan Ray. At school, because Nathan had a severe case of aspergers, he was picked on a lot at school. Because she loved her brother dearly, Dakota always defended Nathan. So much so in fact, that she became known for it, and people began to bully her more than her brother, which she preferred, as it meant that the negative attention was off of Nathan. The bullies got more and more vicious, and to defend herself, so did Dakota. It wasn't long before she was getting into fights, and, even though a lot of the time she was out numbered and also beaten up, she never backed down. Her parents got worried for her because of all the fights and also the fact that she wasn't doing too well in school, but she brushed it off.
One night, when she was walking home, taking shortcuts through some dark back alleys, some older boys that frequently gave her trouble at school saw her. They were drunk. Teasing her, they approached her and taunted her. This gave way to a heated argument, and soon a 'fight'. It was rather one-sided though,as she was a lot smaller than them, and out numbered. She was getting a bad beating. It hurt her so much physically, and was so serious that, for the first time in her life, Dakota feared for her life. It was so dark, and she could barely see her assaulters, which made her even more panicked and terrified. She wished desperately to be able to get away, to escape, and that is when her gift awakened itself, and she flew up into the sky, away from them, to her home. Terrified, bewildered, pained and exhausted, she collapsed on her own front door step, to be discovered soon by her parents. She was rushed into ER and a couple of months there. Ever since that moment, Dakota has been terrified of the dark.
After she had recovered, Dakota returned to school, and things continued the way they had before mostly, with one exception; she knew about her ability to fly. She practiced it in secret telling no one, but one day, a neighbor saw her and reported it. Soon after, strange men showed up at her house, telling her they would take her to a school where she could learn about her gift. They dressed it up with pretty words, but Dakota refused to go, and her parents supported her, whatever she chose. Soon, the men resorted to threatening her and her family, and so Dakota was forced to attend this new, gifted school.

RP Sample: Pandora really was wandering a lot today. After all, it was a new school, and a new environment, so she decided to explore before she had to attend classes, which would most likely be boring. Rubbing her arms in an attempt to ward off the cold, Pandora looked at the snow on the ground. So different to Australia, or at least the part she had lived in. Head tilted to the side, an idea took root in Pandora's mind, and she bit her lip, then looked around. It was a bit childish, but, it was something she had never had the chance to do, and it seemed like fun...
Kneeling in the cold, Pandora smiled softly and gathered snow into a single spot. It stung her hands, and she had to frequently blow on them and rub them together to try and warm them up, however, soon she had gathered enough snow at the bottom. Gathering more to make it taller, Pandora vaguely wondered if it was normal for people her age to build snowmen, especially at school. She honestly didn't know, but that wasn't going to stop her.
Taking a small break to rest her frozen hands, Pandora was glad for her fingerless gloves. Back in Australia, they had been nothing more than an accessory, at least now they helped, even if only a tiny amount, to protect against the cold. Pandora thought of her brother and wondered how he would have loved this, playing in snow. The thought saddened her a bit and the quiet girl paused, then shook her head slightly, as if to clear it, and resumed her snowman building.
