Basics
Name: Aelita Ellsworth
Nicknames: Aelita, LiLi
Age: 15
Birthday: September 24th
Grade: 9th Grade
Power: Light Manipulation
She can twist thin tendrils of light into complicated patterns and designs. When she manipulates light, she can control the color, "texture" and thickness of the tendril ranging from spider silk to 1" rope. She is capable of generating light, but not enough to momentarily blind someone without resulting in confusion and brief short-term memory loss. This has led her to believe she actually spins her thoughts and inspirations out as energy represented as light. It's actually more difficult for her to spin existing light sources into the tendrils she uses, which supports the theory that her ability does not utilize normal light.
The light is intangible, and cannot remain in existence for more than a minute after she stops concentrating on her ability. Her personal record for staying focused enough to add to her light patterns is about four minutes. It is exceedingly difficult for her to create 3D patterns or images or ones that move beyond floating or rotating.

Aelita is not an athlete, but she possesses the musculature and strength of someone capable of everything in your average gym class. She stands at an average 5' 4" and weighs more than most expect her to at 145lbs. Her long - very long, it reaches to her rear - wavy honey blonde hair is usually worn loose. Shorter chunks and a fringe have been cut short to frame her round face. Her features are small and soft looking, but her golden brown eyes are frequently narrowed and focused.
Though she stays away from cosmetics, Aelita's style is precise and displays her interest in the intricate. Her average outfit will consist of at least one shirt, one vest, and often a coat or capelet besides. The clothing she chooses frequently fits snugly about the waist and wrists, but may flow or poof at the shoulders or knees. About three-fourths of her outfits will prefer a skirt or a dress over pants. Her preference in shoes tends to be for boots with laces or multiple buckles at ankle or knee-length. Most of her clothing is brown, blue, purple, or orange. Her accessories are restrained to necklaces and the occasional hairpiece with a clear preference for star & dragon motifs.
She usually observes the dress code with great attention to detail, making few alterations to her uniform during required-wear times.
Personality
Overall Personality:
Aelita does not dislike people, but does so not out of an affinity for them, but an apathy for them. If someone is physically hurt, she will assist. Otherwise, out of sight and out of mind, with neither rage nor happiness at the thought of them. Working with others closely can be extremely stressful for her. Merely being around others though, unless she wants to do something private - like practicing her gift - is fine. She prefers to avoid open conflict, and has never been actually involved in a major altercation with another individual. Where possible - and it usually is, for her - she respects rules and authority.
She prefers not having clampdown style rules or schedules ruling her life though. The fact that she likes birds and magic certainly stem from her idealization of freedom and wide open spaces. Guidelines such as social graces or ettiquette are comforting to her in new situations, giving her a good solid base to work off of with new people.
She usually doesn't make complicated future plans, even though her interests would hit at a preference for organization and patterns. Instead, she stays aware of the details and maps out the chaos in and around her, choosing to find the pattern rather than force one. This has at times led others to think of her as being a bit obtuse or difficult to follow. Even she herself sometimes has to take a step back and realize that while there might be a discernible order to what she's doing to someone particularly clever, she's not quite capable of actually seeing the forest for the trees, either.

History:
Aelita was born as her father was finishing his masters degree in mechanical engineering at a public university in Pennsylvania, USA. Her mother, Edna, had already worked as a nurse at a major hospital for five or six years by that point, proving herself a tired but capable worker on the graveyard shift. The family was not picture perfect, but it was far from the increasingly common dysfunctional, angry mess that passes as a homelife in much of modern America.
She grew up with her mother frequently at work or asleep. Her father, Rodney, had begun working for a local firm that designed basic home appliances - the sort that would be the precursors and competitors to self-operated vacuums. His employer allowed him to draft many of his ideas and basic calculations from a home workshop, allowing him to take care of his infant daughter. The stress of work and a spouse on overnight hours sometimes gave him a temper, but it never manifested in any way more severe than some sharp yelling for Aelita to not play in his workspace. However, from this young impressionable age, she has associated invention & robotics with anger, leading to the seed which germinated in a small "fear" she has of robotics in general.
By the age of 6, she had proved herself to already be an independent individual. She entered kindergarten already able to read short children's novels and with a bright imagination. If she wasn't reading a fantasy novel, she was practicing magic tricks with scarves and cards. Other children generally found her entertaining and friendly, but didn't seem interested in talking about the things she wanted to. So, while well liked and well known, Aelita remained at the edge of the group for most of elementary school. When she was invited to birthday parties, she took the opportunity to entertain the other children with her basic tricks, and was usually invited again the following year - if, sometimes, only by the charmed parents.
She didn't develop into a lonely or melancholy girl, though. She remained bright and inspired, sharing her thoughts when requested to do so and spending hours delighting herself in her room or outside in the woods when alone.
It was in the forest outside of her neighborhood that she first discovered her gift. A breezy but warm October day, just a week and a day after her 11th birthday, Aelita was playing a game by herself. She was pretending to be a faery hero, using an old straw broom that had once decorated the space above the pantry door to fly about a sunlight dappled clearing. The broom doubled as a magical staff, useful for casting spells in addition to chasing down the humming bird knights. As she spun it, closing her eyes to envision the spell lighting up all around her, the day seemed to grow brighter. When she opened them again, a thin but distinct glowing swirl surrounded her. It wasn't magic - it was a gifted ability like any other - but her affection for fantasy led her to think of it like magic thereafter.
Thus, Aelita discovered her ability to manipulate and manifest light around her. It was the secret she'd dreamed of having after living half of her life in magical stories. She told no one, and increasingly played alone in the woods to practice. While others were beginning to grow out of their games and increase the size of their social circle at 12 and 13, she did the reverse.
When she couldn't play alone, due to school or personal responsibility, her life was absorbed in study. She became fascinated with geometric patterns and medieval stained glass windows. Her room became more orderly than before, and images of magic circles alone joined the anime character posters on her walls.
For their part, her parents assumed she was taking after her father - at least in the mathematical department. Her being uncomfortable around robotics would keep her out of that field, but there was plenty to be done in architecture. The increased interest in geometry and artistic windows certainly supported this theory.
The family moved in Aelita's final year of middle school to Boston, where her father had received a more lucrative job offer at a military facility. What he was doing he only vaguely spoke of - though he said more than he was legally supposed to. As Edna and Aelita understood it, the work he had done developing sensors for unmanned appliances had eventually been useful in some kind of drone development for surveillance & security.
The city offered Aelita much less in private places to practice her skills - which had in the last few years developed considerably. No more single undulating lines, now she could spin fantastic patterns based on the magic which had initially inspired her games. She took to the internet instead, devoting more time to research - both of idle interest in patterns themselves, but also in discovering whether or not others had abilities like hers.
Though she still remains unaware of this, the government had been monitoring the family's internet activities. The bugs had been placed meaning to guard against her father spilling DARPA style secrets, but had instead caught the interesting browsing habits of his daughter. They carefully edited and guided her browsing through adware and edits, leading her to discover Ashford Academy and its "gifted" students.
Thus, Aelita decided she was tired of hiding and never having the opportunity to enjoy the engaging and beautiful skill she'd spent years nurturing. She made the case to her parents, using media provided by the school advertising itself as a school for the intellectually gifted. "Coincidentally", Rodney received grants and encouragement to send his daughter to more prestigious learning academic settings. Her acceptance and funding arrived in short order after that.
Aelita packed her things and left, joining Ashford Academy's 9th grade class in the spring semester of 2015 at the age of 15.

"I think this probably concludes the tour, doesn't it, Taiga?" Dual Core said matter of factly, right after Backburn was attended to by Rigel. She was grateful that he had, actually. The way things were shaping up, Backburn was getting a view of this place that was unsatisfactory not because it was boring, but unsatisfactory because it failed to meet proper standards for a base.
That could be dangerous if he had any significant friends or superiors to report back to. It could change things around here, when previously there was no reason to turn a sterner gaze to the base. Besides, Ashdust would be the mech getting most of the scrap for not keeping everyone in proper protocols. He did everyone a favor by not entirely noticing everything, however much Taiga said he was stiff and dull.
"I don't think they're anything but themselves. There's hardly Cybertronian enhancers to be found on the streets of London. They're too valuable to be anywhere but well guarded military bases of significance, of which, they don't have access to." Dual Core succinctly put down this possibility in an effort to draw attention away from the fact that Taiga wanted to make it seem entirely reasonable for the Twins.
"Do you need an escort back to the Medical Bay, Backburn? Some assistance with your face?"
