Empathic Power Sensing - This is a psychic power which consists of two major abilities. The first to be described is his power sensing. Through this ability, when in close proximity to or making physical contact with any gifted individual, Gael is able to detect all of the powers which that person possesses. While this does give him inside information about his target, there are some limitations. If the power has the potential to evolve into something greater or more powerful, while he can sense the *potential* he can not sense what the power will become. In addition if a target has a power that they have not yet used for the first time or had a trigger event for, again he can detect there's a potential there for some kind of power development, but can learn nothing about that power itself. The range at which this begins to work is about 10 feet. He must focus on one target at a time, and so can not read all the powers of everyone in a group at one time. While the power sensing part of his power can be used at a distance, the second ability which it gives him requires physical contact.
When making skin-on-skin physical contact with a target, gifted or otherwise, first and foremost, Gael is able to sense the current emotions of the person in question. Whatever surface emotions they might be feeling like happiness, sadness, anger or fear are transmitted to him. He feels them as if they were his own emotions, at whatever intensity the target is experiencing them, for as long as he remains in physical contact. He can not, however, read into the deeper meanings behind these emotions *unless* the emotions are extremely strong, in which case he can sense what is currently causing the target individual to feel those emotions. If he makes physical contact with a gifted individual, there is a further layer of utility to this power. He can also sense, with regards to their powers, what specific emotion is tied their use. For example, if a person uses their power best when angry, frightened, calm or focused, Gael can sense that information. In addition to that, for each one of their powers, Gael can experience the trigger memory which is connected to that power. A "trigger memory" is the event during which that power manifested itself for the first time. He can experience this memory first hand as if he were present and watching it happen. He can also sense whatever emotions were tied to said event. In this way, when using this power, he can gain a total understanding of what emotional and mental elements are connected to each of his targets powers. He must be careful however, for if the trigger memory for a power is very potent or extreme, the emotions associated will be transferred to him, and can be harmful to him. In addition, the longer he uses this power to evaluate a person, the more mentally drained he becomes. Using the power for too long or too many times consecutively can cause fatigue, nausea, and even fainting in extreme cases.
Empathic Healing - Another psychic power, empathic healing essentially allows Gael to take emotional or mental suffering away from a target. First and foremost, this ability can only be used on one person at a time, and requires skin-on-skin physical contact. When this ability is used, Gael essentially draws negative emotions off of his target and into himself. Whatever negative emotions they may be feeling at the moment, whether it be pain, anger, fear, frustration or what have you seem to fade and then disappear and are replaced with a sense of happiness, peace and well-being. While not able to heal wounds, this power *can* be used to dull physical pain, as such pain originates in the mind. In addition, when used in combination with his empathic power sensing or astral projection, this power can even be used to help heal deep emotional damage in a person's past, especially when connected to a person's powers and the events surrounding their emergence. However, this power has a serious side-effect on Gael himself.
When Gael takes away the negative emotions or pain that a person is feeling, he himself suffers as a result. He feels psychic pain of varying intensity, depending upon the intensity of the emotions or pain which he is "healing". This pain is experienced by Gael as a white hot pain over his forehead, and grows more and more intense the longer that he continues to use this power on an individual. In extremely severe cases, such as when trying to heal serious mental or emotional trauma, the pain is enough to put Gael in a comatose state, his mind overwhelmed by the sensation of the emotions and the excruciating mental pain. The only exception to this is when this power is used while Gael is entering a person's dream through astral projection. In the realm of dreams, Gael is very powerful, and more than able to take on severe emotional pain. However, there is a danger to this as well, to be discussed later. Similar to his power sensing ability this power also drains him mentally the longer he uses it; a doubly dangerous side-effect in this power's case. Gael has gained enough control to *somewhat* control whether or not he uses this power on contact with a person. However it requires intense focus and discipline on Gael's part. Under normal circumstances, or accidental contact, this ability *will* be activated.
Astral Projection - This is a spiritual ability which, essentially, allows Gael to separate his spirit, or astral body, from his physical one. Once done, he can do one of several things. He is able to travel instantaneously wherever he can imagine with his mind's eye. However, how far he can travel is limited by his mental strength. While he has become quite powerful in the astral realm, and traveled quite far in his childhood, his range at current is limited to the rather large area of the island. Where he to travel any farther, he would run the risk of permanently separating his spirit from his physical body, which would then die. While in spirit form he can of course not interact with anything or anyone in the physical world, but he can hear and see. He can astral project when naturally asleep or by inducing a trance on himself, usually through concentration sometimes aided by incense.
In addition to travelling to physical places while astral projecting, Gael can also enter the mind of any person who is asleep or otherwise unconscious. By doing this he can essentially share their dreams as an observer. He can also interact with the person's sleeping consciousness as if he were physically there with them. This allows him to provide council and guidance through their dreams and the labyrinth of their subconscious. He can to a limited degree manipulate the dream world, but only with the sleeping consciousness' allowance, and to do such a thing requires large amounts of energy on his part. In addition to this, astral projecting in general also slowly drains his mental energy for as long as he is doing it, and once that energy has run out, he will be forcefully returned to his physical body. Using powers in conjunction with his astral projecting like empathetic healing use up that energy faster. One danger that constantly exists for Gael *is* in fact using empathic healing with astral projecting. The reason for this is that, similar to travelling too far away from his physical body, if Gael were to lose control of his healing while attempting to do so in his spirit form, he could become permanently separated from his physical body, unable to ever return.

Appearance:
Gael in general has a very graceful, gentle appearance. He is fairly tall, standing at around 5 feet and 10 inches, and weighs in on the lighter end of the spectrum, about 146 lbs. Though he is not very muscular, with a fairly average build, he does take care of his body and is in good shape. He has a slim, lithe frame with longer arms and legs, though his shoulders are fairly broad for his size. Notably, his hands are of normal size, but almost slim in their shape, with longer, graceful fingers perfect for turning the pages of a book. Gael's facial features match the rest of his body in their appearance. He has a high, slim, and very angular jawline, with a smaller, triangular chin. His cheekbones are set high and attractively defined, set just under his eyes. His eyes are more almond shaped, and a vivid amber color, with thin, tapering eyebrows above them. His nose is smaller and triangular; his mouth almost always turned up in a warm smile. Notably, his ears are a bit larger than normal, though they are generally covered by his hair. They are tapered at their tips naturally, giving them an almost pointed appearance.
Gale's skin is pale both by heritage and due to the large amount of time he spends indoors, as is his hair which is an off white, almost pearl-like color. His hair is long, reaching down to his shoulders and falling around his ears, giving him an almost fey-like appearance at first glance. It falls at the front in long bangs which cover the right side of his forehead and part of his right eye, as well as framing his face. In general his hair is well kept, though the way it grows makes it difficult to keep perfectly neat, and so it sometimes appears messy. In general Gael's style is very relaxed and comfortable. He prefers wearing fitted clothing like slimmer jeans and t-shirts. He likes to wear light coats, particularly one white affair that he can most usually be seen in. His favorite colors of clothing include white, black, and yellow. Two items that Gael can be seen with at all times are a tooth necklace, featuring a simple white cord threaded with shiny black teeth, and a large black satchel which he carries several of his favorite books in at all times.
Personality
Overall Personality:
Gael's personality is largely centered around kindness and empathy. His ability to detect people's emotions and they way that those emotions connect to their powers helps him to be very understanding of people around him. Because of this, he tends to be largely non-judgmental, and very accepting of people regardless of what kind of personality they may have. He tends to reach out to those around him and attempt to help them in any way that he can, sometimes even overextending himself in the course of doing so. One area in particular that he tries to assist people is in helping them to gain control and understanding of their powers. He is a loyal and trustworthy friend, and he greatly enjoys making new ones and meeting new people. He hates unnecessary violence and conflict, and will often try to diffuse a situation before engaging in a fight if at all possible.
When it comes to his interests, Gael's loves consist primarily of books, history and psychology, making him a perfect fit for the assistant position that he has taken up with the school psychiatrist in the medical offices. He can often be found reading and re-reading his favorites, and loves to find and read new books, as well as collecting classic and rare works. His favorite past time is in fact sitting in the library where he spends much of his free time, reading with a cup of tea. . He is loathe to be involved with physical combat, as his powers, their healing effect and the understanding of humanity that they give him makes hurting someone the very last thing he would ever want to do. With regards to history and psychology, he firmly believes in the adage that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. He also believes that there is no emotional or mental problem that can not be overcome with the right help, and loves to *be* that help. He keeps personal journals in addition to his recording duties for the school psychiatrist, and has a near-idetic memory besides.
Gael's fears and personal weaknesses largely revolve around the fact that his empathic power sensing is very difficult to control. He is in general very cautious and wary of violating people's privacy, but often breaches it unintentionally through only simple physical contact. This conflicts with his kind and outgoing personality, and often causes him emotional turmoil. Even without physical contact, simply being around gifted people causes him to sense very intimate parts of their personality where it is connected to their powers. Because this is largely uncontrollable, one of Gael's greatest fears is unintentionally offending someone and making an enemy. As the very first emotional connection that he ever read was in fact the drowning of a person, which he was forced to fully experience, Gael also has a deathly fear of drowning himself which extends to swimming as well.

History:
Gael, in point of fact, had a very normal life up until he was 10 years old. He was born and grew up in a small suburban town just outside of Seattle, Washington. His parents, Alec and Sarah Lennox, were fairly normal as well, and were in fact engineers, working in the big city. Although his parents were loving and his home life quite good, Gael had troubles as a child. For much of his early life, he was a very quiet and reserved child. He had a lot of difficulty making friends and connections with others, and thus was quite lonely. He was, however, very smart. He advanced quickly through his classes, teachers stating that it was almost as if he never forgot anything he wrote down. Of course at so young an age, his power had not yet fully manifested, but the idetic memory that it brought him had. He could see everything he had ever written at his desks in his mind's eye, and call it to mind. It wasn't until Gael was 10 years old that he was, very forcefully, alerted to the true nature of his powers.
That day, Gael was on a trip with his family into the city during one of Seattle's very rare days of nice weather. The three were visiting one of the city's parks; this one centered around a man-made lake. While sitting on the benches with his parents, Gael noticing a gleaming object on the grass at the edge of the lake, and approached to find a necklace lying there. Of course, being a curious child, he reached down and picked it up. Unbeknownst to Gael, a drowning had been committed at the park not two days prior, and the necklace belonged to the victim. It was a simple trinket, a white cord with gleaming, black teeth threaded through it. When Gael touched it however, the empathic side of his power sensing flared up for the first time. The previous owner had been a young boy, on vacation at the beach. His power had been water manipulation of some kind and, tragically, he had accidentally drowned someone, leaving his necklace there and running in panic. Gael was forced to experience, in detail, both being drowned as the innocent had been, but also the emotional trauma inflicted on the young boy who had caused the death. After what seemed like a lifetime, Gael came to, his parents shouting and trying to wake him, panicked; the necklace still lay clutched in his hand. After a very stressful trip to the hospital, it was determined that nothing was wrong with him, and that it had been a mere dramatic episode.
Afraid of what his parents might think or what might happen to him, Gael kept his power hidden and went along with the story. Of course, his power did continue to manifest, and Gael was forced to learn to deal with it on his own. As the years passed, he actually began to become more and more empathetic and understanding of his fellow students. A bump in the hallway became a life story, and naturally through that story came empathy. Slowly he started to gain the kind heart that he has today, as well as developing some tolerance and control over his ability. Interestingly enough, he also began to make friends. He kept the truth of his new-found understanding hidden, afraid that his power would scare people and drive them away, especially those with bad memories or very private ones.
For a time, it seemed that he would be able to return to some semblance of a normal life; but of course, it couldn't last.
As he grew older, his other powers began to manifest. Powers that, as it turned out, were much more difficult to hide. It began with his dreams. He'd had lucid dreams before, but never anything like this. He would close his eyes at night and be whisked off familiar places at first, his school, the library between there and his home, the beach where he first discovered his power. They were more than just dreams though, he knew that at once, because he could smell the sea salt, hear people talking about things he couldn't possibly know, watch the janitor sweeping the classroom where he spent fourth period. Then he began to see fantastic things, impossible things, sometimes horrifying things, but always there was someone who stood as different. More real midst the fantasy. They always saw him, and always asked him why he was there. He was unable to answer the question for himself for the longest time, until he began to do research on something called astral travelling, or astral projection. This was no coincidence. This was a new power. Luckily this one was easy enough to hide, though he occasionally had to stop himself from blurting about secrets and personal facts that he shouldn't know. However, the trouble was about to begin.
His third power began to manifest on his 17th birthday. Up until now, occasional physical contact had brought only flashes of emotion into his mind, happiness, sadness, excitement. But now these brushes began to hurt. He would feel hot flashes of pain over his forehead, almost as if there we white not nails being driven into the very core of his brain. The pain was in varying levels and duration, but one thing stayed constant. The people he brushed immediately seemed to become lucid and happier, as if some weight had been lifted from their shoulders. It wasn't until he began to focus during these episodes that he could feel negative emotions washing off of the person he was touching. Their sadness, anger, pain and frustration, he was taking it all away, and onto himself. He tried to limit contact as much as he could, but of course that was impossible, and it wasn't as if it was hurting anyone but him. Ironically, this only made him more popular with his friends, which was at least some small comfort to him. The year wore on, until the end of the school year. Gael was staying late to work on a project on his own in the school courtyard, when he heard a soft cry from the top of the school building. He looked up, and was horrified to see a young girl there, standing on the ledge of the roof, preparing to jump. Yelling for her to stay where she was he sprinted for the school building, dashing up the stairs and to roof access coming out behind the girl and trying to talk her down. She was adamant however, and seeing no recourse, knowing what he was capable of, he jumped forward and grabbed her wrist. If he thought he'd felt pain before, it had been nothing compared to this. It hit him like a hammer blow, but he held on to her with all his strength, forcing himself to endure the pain as he washed away years of abuse, bullying, depression and pain, taking it all onto himself. When he finally released her, he collapsed to the ground convulsing and the girl, now clearheaded, called the police.
Gael awoke 2 weeks later in a hospital emergency room. The sheer amount of pain he had taken onto himself had completely overloaded his brain, putting him in a comatose state, in which he had been unable to even astral project as he had been doing before. His parents had been at his side day and night worried sick but, strangely, so had the girl. The news had spread quickly, the girl posting about the incident online, telling the doctors, and anyone who would listen about the boy who had taken her pain and depression away. When he was finally released from the hospital, Gael and his parents were greeted by agents from a place called Ashford Academy. They explained to his parents that what had happened was not natural, but metaphysical. And the academy was merely a place where Gael would be able to learn to control his abilities, and be safe with others like him. Believing the ruse, his parents allowed him to be taken. But as soon as he touched the agents, he knew what was really happening. Malice rolled off of them in waves, and before he could protest, he was handcuffed and on his way to Ashford in chains. Upon arriving at the school however, he realized that whether the agents had meant it or not, they had brought him to the place where his powers could do the most good. There were students here who needed help. Needed guidance and healing. And if he could, he would do it. He quickly took up an assistant position with the school's psychiatrist, and has been there helping students with their issues and emotional trauma ever since.
