Suddenly, a new roommate appears! (Skyelar)

Honestly, this school was huge.

Marceline snapped her head to and fro as she gazed in awe at the many things that littered the property. Here and there, a students were walking or chatting, each of them were different in looks or stature. Through her own starstruck expression, Marce knew that it was all a lie. The lie  was  that they all acted so normal, but she was being sent to live with people like her, and she knew that meant each of them had 'powers'. A small gasp escaped with a large smile as she walked slowly into one of the massive hallways she had seen from outside. She had only been dropped off at the place an hour before, and after getting all her things signed, a slip of paper and a fake smile was all she received. Now thinking about it, she had yet to look at what was written on it.

Her eyes widened at her mistake, she had honestly forgotten about it during her whole 'open-mouthed exploration of the academy'. Ah! Now where was that paper? Furiously patting her pockets in order to find the darned thing, she looked like an idiot that lost their keys. For all she knew, she might have. Digging her slender hand into the last pocket that remained on her vest, she exhaled at the feeling of paper, the messy crunch of white comforting her. Ripping it out, she swung her arm to bring it to her face. Her eyes struggled to focus on the letters. As soon as it was readable, she unintentionally mumbled out the faint words as she read them in her head. Room 302... Ah, this must be where she will be staying for... well, who knows how long. She might be stuck at this place for many, many more years, probably until her 'studies' or something were completed. Her eyes glossed over for a moment. How many people had made it out of this place?...

Softly humming, her wonder-struck moment gone, she tilted her head to look up at one of the bright lights that lit the hallway, hands behind her head as she walked in the direction of where she believed the Girl's Dorms to be, or at least, that's where the signs told her to go. She was now a bit more bored then she was earlier, now seeing as their where no students lurking around in the hallway. It was interesting, she supposed, to see everyone's differing features. She had never really understood how it was rude to stare, and was doing it quit often the more she stayed here. She had even seen someone with ears like a cat! The school was filled with them! Filled with what the people on the plane said where... 'special' or 'gifted'. Sighing, she glanced down at her own hands, wary of the power even they posses alone. She always knew that she wasn't gifted, maybe she was cursed. She might have loved to live with her power, yes, but not what it brought with it.

An to almost read her own thoughts, a feather slowly drifted down from her mop of red hair that was currently in it's usual two-pigtailed mess. A soft cry fell from her lips as she abandoned her posture to swoop down to catch the shedding secret before it fell to the ground. It fluttered through her hands a few times before she grabbed it firmly, her hands growing sweaty as she truly realized what it was. "Dammit..." Her voice was small and scared, not like her usual self. Clenching her hand shut, the feather still in her palm, she looked up towards the door she had stopped in front of. Room 302, eh? Looks like she has arrived.
Forgetting about the bright red fluff of a feather poking out of her hand, she rose her arm to knock on the door, only hoping her roommate was in there. She had one... right?

Skyelar hummed along to the soft speakers in the background as she lay on her stomach, her wings spread casually to either side of her as she read the book in front of her. She had been relaxing the majority of the day, having had a long flying session early on and the fact it was the weekend meant that she had no classes, and definitely no school work. She was able to knock that stuff out of the way almost right as it was handed to her. She sighed a bit and tapped her finger on the page, looking to the half gutted laptop on her desk.

"I should finish putting that back together today..." She got up, swiftly making her way over to the desk before cocking her head to the side, feeling like she had heard someone outside the door say 'dammit'. She turned her head, looking at the door before going to sit down in the self-modified chair, nearly jumping out of her skin and knocking the chair over when a knock rang through the room, barely catching the chair with a murmured "Merda..."

The young bird girl sighed a bit, setting it down before calling out, "Be there in a moment!" She hopped over to her dresser, fishing out a bra and quickly slipping it on under her tank top. She spun on her heels, making her way quickly over to the door before pulling it open in one, quick smooth motion, her face a lit with her usual, friendly smile, hair somewhat ruffled from nearly falling over just a few moments ago, her wings tucked up tightly against her back.

"Hello~ Can I help you?" she asked energetically, a slight tilt of her head giving off a somewhat childish demeanor.

Marceline let out a small sigh as she heard an answer to her knock echo out of the room. So she did have a roommate. That would be a huge change for her, for she had grown used to living in her large room with only her birds for comfort. It had never really required her to go outside and socialize with other people her age, and certainly had never prepared her for having to live with another person. Sure, she had her brother to deal with, but with such a large space for her own, she hadn't had to deal with privacy or conversations when she was in her own space. To her, her room was her only place to be herself while she drew or read. 

She tilted on the heels of her feet with a bored expression, her hands still somewhat frozen to her sides after she had knocked on the door to her to-be shared room. Soon, her rocking back and forth required her to spread her arms out a bit, her right hand still formed as a fist, holding the feather. Her feather. She almost shivered at the thought. This thing had come out of her hair! As far as she knew, she had never even come in contact with such a bright colored bird today, for a few days at that. The most frightening aspect of it was that she had found other such feathers littered in her old room. How long had these been in her hair?

As the door swung open, Marceline almost physically jumped, somehow managing to stay in her very immature pose, still swinging back and forth on the back of her feet. Her eyes widened as she took in the girl at the door's appearance. Her green hair was almost similar to the young animator's eye color, and it brought back the unwanted memories of her father. He had the same eyes, almost exact to the girl's. A bitter laugh almost bubbled up from her stomach as she remembered her time at her old home, before she had been forced to leave. The girl's question brought her back from her little flashback. 

"Uhh, yeah." She held scrambled for the scrap of paper with her left hand, holding up for her to see, her face daring the other to deny her obvious statement. The blush of nervousness stayed on her almost rude face however, eyes pointed towards the floor. In her haste to show her the note, she hadn't seen the great wings on the back of the stranger. But it would come soon enough to her, watch out. "I'm new here..?"

Skyelar blinked as she looked at the girl, a little confused at first before she held up the paper awkwardly. She tilted her head, eyeing the note for a moment and the numbers before it clicked. She was finally getting a new roommate. She smiled at the girl, blinking a few times when she noticed the blush and the down-turned look. She looked nervous. What could the bird girl to do fix that nervousness? The bird girl had no idea, she hadn't really had to deal with a brand new student in a while. She tilted her head a little before hopping back, brushing off the idea of what she thought were feathers being in the girl's hair. Then again, she was used to seeing feathers every day so it didn't seem like a big deal to her.

"Well then looks like you found the room! I guess I'll tell ya welcome and all that jazz. Come on in! I don't bite or anything, that's the cat and dog mimickers," she said, a playful grin crossing her features at her last statement, trying to cheer the girl up and lighten the mood. She made a motion for her to come in before spinning on her feet, walking further in, bouncing energetically as she grabbed the small bag of trail mix she'd been munching on for the past hour before spinning back around.

"Welcome to where I hope we wont be spending the rest of our lives. I've managed to keep the half of the room that you'll be using fairly neat and clean," she stated as she looked to the mess of wires on her own desk. "Well, definitely cleaner than my own side of the room right now at least. I hope you don't mind me keeping the bed closest to the window, I tend not to sleep well unless I can see the sky clearly." She looked back to the girl, the smile never leaving her features before she spoke again, the slight tilt of her head giving her a somewhat inquisitive look.

"Anyways, my name is Skyelar Falknor, but you can just call me Sky for short if you'd like. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Still kind of just standing there with the note held up in the air, Marceline watched her out of the corner of her eye as she realized what was going on. When she seemed to get it, Marce listened to the girl's small joke, slightly laughing before going over what she had said. Cat and Dog mimickers?! Her mind whirled at the thought of more then one person that possessed that kind of power, it was her first day after all. Seeing even a girl with odd colored hair was a bit of a shock at first, and to think that soon enough she would be seeing even more people like that, with their special powers and abilities, was amazing.

As the girl walked back into what would soon be Marce's new half-room, Marceline let out a gasp unintentionally. Upon looking at the back of the girl, she appeared to have wings, real wings! Almost all traces of nervousness gone as she found her self grinning like a madman, eyes almost glistening in the sun coming through the window. She tried to tame the wild smile as the girl turned around to talk about the room or something. The words had almost slipped by her, but she tried to listen, covering most of her grin with her hand slightly. The great red feather slowly drifted out of her hand, landing somewhere on the ground, unnoticed to the awestruck red-head. Even this girl didn't know when they were permitted to leave this place... It only dampened her bright expression as she thought about it.

She was thankful that the other girl had kept her side of the room clean, but she was a bit disappointed when she heard that she had taken the bed closest to the window. There goes being able to observe the birds every morning, but if it helped the nice girl sleep, then she as actually okay with it. She let her grin falter into a small smile as the girl talked about the sky, but it soon returned to it's former state. It seemed as though the girl didn't notice as she gazed around her room. She was starting to scare herself with her own silence.

So her name was Skyelar. It really fit her, the mysterious bird girl that was soon to be her new roommate. Marceline let her hand drift over the sheets in her bed after slowly entering after the girl. It really did seem clean over here opposed to the other side of the room, but the messiness of the other side was a nice messy, and gave off the look of someone who looked comfortable with her surroundings. She grabbed the sheets unconsciously, feeling the soft material. Her own belongings wouldn't show up at the school for a day or so, a mistake had happened in the airport. Finally, she spoke up. "Thank you, for keeping my side of the room clean, I mean." She turned excitedly towards Skyelar. "Nice to meet you Skyelar, I'm Marceline." She was so intent on staring at the girl's wings, and it had began to get a bit creepy. But her eyes were so filled with joy... Her hand began to extend towards one of them, but she let it drop. Her eyes were wide when she started to speak again, "Are they really real? They're beautiful, can you really fly?" Her voice was quiet, yet stilled filled with awe.

Skyelar should have known there was going to be a reaction to her wings, it wasn't like it was every day where a person saw a girl with wings. It didn't surprise her any less, probably because most people seemed to brush off her large wings as the usual mutation, despite her having checked her own DNA to find she had two percent bird DNA. How her DNA held together, didn't unwind, and didn't kill her she didn't know, but it had resulted in her wings and instincts while flying, though her own, personal intelligence over-rode her instincts for the most part. She glanced at the girl's hand, almost daring her to try to touch the wings before the hand dropped back to the girl's side.

Skyelar tilted her head at Marceline, blinking a few times as she asked a question she had never been asked before. Could she fly? Of course she could fly, she had even clocked her own air speed just to know how fast she could fly. Her smile didn't waver as she stretched out one wing at a time, glancing at them for a moment before speaking, looking back to the girl. "Of course they are real," she stated, ruffling her wings without moving any other part of her body to emphasis her statement. "I can fly with them too to answer your question. I'm the best flyer on the island to be exact, can reach speeds higher then all others as far as I know because my body, on the inside, is built for it."

She tucked her wings up against her back again, noting that she had to tilt her head up a little in order to look at the girl's face. That really didn't surprise the bird girl, she had always been fairly short compared to most. She tilted her head curiously, noting what she thought were feathers in the girl's hair again, though she couldn't tell if they were placed there or just extremely close in colour to the girl's hair. She shook her head, trying to pull her thoughts back together before sitting on her own bed, pulling her legs up into a cross-legged position.

"So whadya get caught for? From outward appearances, other than a few feathers, you look completely normal. Did you blow up a building? I know someone blew up a building and that's how they had their abilities found out," she stated, her voice laced with innocent curiosity.

Eyes brimmed to the fill with an genuine joy, Marceline could only sigh in longing as Skyelar's wings stretched out in front of her. The link between humans and birds. It was possible, in her mind now, that someone she knew had the joy of being able to soar through the air like she had for so long. Staring seemed rude, but her eyes still refused to stop darting back and forth between her face and beautiful wings flexed behind it. The tilt of Skyelar's head only gave her a more childish look, and Marceline was beginning to find herself more comfortable with her. Her nervous front had slowly dripped away, until she had released her emotions after sighting the wings. To go on adoring would end up in her having no respect for the girl herself, just her wings.

So as they slid back down onto Skyelar's back, Marceline let a few words fly out of her own mouth. "Built for it...? You're really able to fly? It just seems to good to be true, that you're actually able to fly whenever you want, wherever, and just be able to float near the clouds." Her words were rushed, not coming out the most intelligible as she wanted them to. She shook her head, trying to appear as though she had nothing to do with what she had just said. She looked back to catch of the girl staring at her hair. She instantly brought up a hand, thinking that she hadn't tried hard enough to brush it today, that it might be a complete mess. Which is basically was everyday.


Realizing that Skyelar had sat down, Marceline decided to stand up a bit longer, comfortable with the girl but not so much with her surroundings. To be honest, she was afraid that it might even be rude to randomly sit down, she had no claim on this room because of her lack of luggage. Which is going to suck later... she wouldn't have anything to change into. She listened to Skyelar's words, eyes widening as she processed what she said. Caught? Blowing up buildings? She inwardly shivered as she thought of how many students could have been sent here for crimes worse then just blowing up a building. Her hand that had been drifting along her hair now grabbed a piece, the soft feeling of a feather caressing her palm. She had failed herself in hiding, and now, she knew it was going to be even harder the more people knew. "Really? I guess it'd be hard to hide them after you do something like that." She shifted slightly on her feet, a bit hesitant on answering, but felt she owed the girl something,"I... didn't get caught. Only one person knew exactly what my powers were."

Skyelar blinked a few times at the girl's reaction to her question, subconsciously starting to prune her wings. She let her mind wander a bit, trying to figure out how exactly to respond to the girl. She was curious about her powers, especially the feathers in her hair, but she didn't want to pry or anything, it could just make things a little awkward. She stopped fiddling with her wings the moment she became aware of it and settled her hands back down into her lap, crossing them gently as she looked at the girl before her, a slight tilt in her head before glancing back at the girl's side of the room.

"When will you be getting your things?" she asked, glancing back up at the girl before hopping off the bed, bending down to reach under her own bed. "Think you may need some sheets or something?" She lay on her stomach, reaching under the bed as she tried to find what she was looking for, pushing a few old computers out from under it as she searched. She really needed to get rid of the few old tower casings, they were failed designs after all. None of them provided the needed airflow for her more powerful than the Jaguar Super Computer tower. After a bit of grumbling she finally found the spare sheets she had bought a few months back and started to pull them out, wincing as her arm caught on one of the older towers made of metal, pushing it gently out of the way.

Dammit....hope that doesn't leave a mark.

She pulled herself into a sitting position, holding the package in her lab before noticing the cut, sighing a little as she stood up. She really needed to clean out under her bed, get rid of the old tower model failures. She smiled as she turned around and held it out to the other girl at arm's length, showing no signs that she was in pain from the cut. "I think you may need these if your things don't get here. From the looks of things I think my bras would be a taaaad big on ya but I can lend ya a shirt and shorts for sleepwear if you'd like. Can always find ya something to wear by going to the mall or something as well." She kept her cheerful expression the entire time, the childish tilt of her head also remaining.

Marce almost smiled and laughed as she glanced at her roommate groom her wings, for the girl was reminded of the birds she loved so at her old home. She must have zoned out to a certain extent, because she soon realized that Skyelar had just asked her a question, and Marce had to blink a few times to regain her voice. She must of been tired from the trip, in honesty, she had almost took a dive into her own memories again.

"Oh..." She glanced for a few long seconds around anywhere but Skyelar's face, feeling almost embarrassed that her luggage just happened to get stuck on the wrong plane. It was quite silly of her, even though it wasn't her fault at all, she just thought it might be a rare thing for a new student arriving at their new lodging without belongings. "They got stuck at the airport. Might be a day or two." She looked at Skyelar, surprised and confused, as if she wasn't used to the kindness. "Oh, please. Guess I forgot."

She watched silently as Skylar had already gotten onto the floor, and was apparently moving some semi-large things around, judging by the sound.Then again, Marce finally got a good look at her wings, or at least, the best she was going to get right now. They looked if they had truly been taken off the back of predatory bird, which sounded a bit morbid now as she looked over then as much as she could, trying to save the image. She most defiantly felt the urge to sit and sketch them in different poses for a long, comfortable while... only if, of course, Skyelar said it was okay to draw them. Marceline could at least understand that they were an important, it was a part of her roommate, and not something she just owned.

It was also then she realized that if Skyelar was to turn around now, it would most likely end up to be awkward and more embarrassing for her. She was just staring at her...

She gathered herself as Skyelar brought herself back up, holding what appeared to be blankets, or perhaps those sheets. She smiled thankfully as they were held out to her, only to let the smile fade a bit as she thought she noticed something on Skyelar's arm. She quickly turned to set the things down on the bed, talking as she went. "Yes, thank you very much. And yeah, that would be very nice, thank you again. I really hope y stuff comes back, don't want to be that kind of roommate who 'borrows' all your stuff, heheh." When she faced Skyelar completely again, she gasped slightly as finally saw the cut on her arm in focus. "Oh, ouch! You alright there?"

Skyelar stretched out a bit once Marceline took the sheets, smiling at the girl. She placed her hands on her hips as the other girl set down the spare set of sheets, the smile never leaving her features, even as the girl asked about her arm. She looked at the cut on her arm, blinking a few times, not even really bothered by the dull ache from the cut. She simply turned silently and walked over to her desk, grabbed a bit of gauze and dabbed the blood from her arm, her voice coming out as if she was used to a few cuts and scrapes as she responded, finally. "Yeah, I'm fine. It's a small cut, it'll be healed up by... Probably about ten tonight."

She nodded as if to confirm this, though she knew it was going to be a give or take situation. She never knew how long a cut like that would take to heal, then again she knew it was because of her eating habits. She picked up the box of poky off her desk and stuck one in her mouth, munching on it for a moment before speaking again, it hanging out of the corner of her mouth. "Your stuff should come eventually, but like I said, we can always head to the mall if need be. It's not like I have anything better to do. Well..I do need to clear out under my bed but that can wait." The girl shrugged a bit, bouncing on her feet, nibbling at the poky stick sticking out of her mouth.

Skyelar didn't know what to say now, she hadn't had a roommate in a few years. It was odd to think that she had one, but she knew she'd readjust to having one again. Sure, it meant until she was comfortable with the other girl she was going to be extremely protective of her wings, but when was the girl not? Her wings were one of her most sensitive body parts and it felt...weird when someone else touched them. Would she ever let the girl in front of her touch her wings? Possibly, depended on how much she would prove to be trust-able. She smiled at the girl a bit before taking a seat again, crossing her hands in her lap. "I hope your trip was at least pleasant on the way here."

She was left by the bedside, standing quite awkwardly once again. She would need to work on that, getting comfortable in her new surroundings, this is where she would be living, hopefully nicely, soon. After all, from what she had gathered from some conversations on the way here slightly frightened her, it was the fact that no one left. While this odd fact disturbed her, she would have to find out more later. For now, she was content on working out on how she was going to live with a roommate. Skyelar would be her first, ever since she had first moved to the city with her brother. Then, it didn't matter whether you shared a room or not, a place to sleep was a blessing to two children without a home.

She watched silently, trying not to make too much noise out of an unexplained desire to not disrupt anything. She had an idea of when it was going to heal? That was weird. She wanted to laugh to herself, but she held it back, trying to she was the girl had picked up of of her desk. "The mall? There's one for the students? I hadn't realized we had access to that sort of thing." She tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear, very used to the certain strand of red hair falling whenever it liked to. She tried to keep her hair in pig tails, but they didn't work very well, as most could see. A crimson feather stuck on her finger, and she flicked it away quickly, smiling a tiny bit. She had hoped Skyelar hadn't seen, it would be a hassle to explain why feathers were there in the first place, and even harder to why they keep showing up around the room. She snuck another slightly awed glance to her new roommate's wings, wondering if perhaps she'd find a few of those around here too. They'd be a beauty to sketch.

"It was nice, I slept a bit on the plane ride." Lie, she had spent most of the agonizingly long trip from her home to a strange place thinking of what would become of herself, and her only family member she left behind. But he would take care of himself. She shook her head only slightly, clearing her ideas out of her head. She needed to stop thinking about it, and so she softly sat down on the bed behind her, guessing it was alright by now.

Skyelar nods a bit at her reaction, smiling at the girl. "Yeah, there's a mall we're allowed to go to. We need a Prefect escort but that's not really any big deal." The winged girl shrugged her shoulders a bit, kicking her feet, which refused to ever reach the ground whenever she sat on her bed. The girl glanced at the ceiling, getting distracted by her thoughts for a moment before Marceline spoke again, grabbing the girl's attention back as she realized she was responding to her last statement. She tilted her head a little, highly doubting that she actually fell asleep on the flight, no one she knew had actually been that relaxed on the flight over, but she would give the girl the benefit of the doubt.

She smiled at the girl none the less, holding out a stick of her poky in a friendly gesture. "Well that's at least good to hear. Well, you can get settled or whatever you need to do. If you need anything I'm more then willing to help. We have alllll the time in the world here. Just lemme know if you wanna borrow anything or do anything, I'm more then willing to help." She pulled her knees up to her chest, resting her head on them as she looked at the girl, not really sure what else she could say. She was never the best at talking to people, though having someone to chat with ma help it a little.
