A heavy sigh drifted through an uncharacteristically deserted hallway. It was only recently that school had let out, but already there seemed to be complete silence. The odd lack of students was mostly due to the fact that it was Friday and almost everyone had rushed out of the building already eager to start the weekend. Parties, sleep-overs, late night movie marathons, most everyone had something planned. However, there was still a lone figure dressed in his usual black attire in the student lounge.
He'd been attending this prison school for about a third of his life, but Zane still hadn't bothered to make many friends. People seemed to think him to distant, or just plain boring. It's not like he doesn't understand though. His power to feel the emotions of others is passive so when around even a small group of people he's forced to let go of his own emotions so he isn't overwhelmed by everyone else's. One or two people he could handle, but once it hit around three or four things started getting confusing. Right now only the occasional straggler passed within his range so he could acknowledge his own emotions for the moment. It'd been so long since he'd just taken a breather alone, a couple weeks perhaps.
Getting away from everyone was nice for the first few minutes, but after awhile a sort of abyss opened up. Going so long without allowing himself a little time to himself tended to make him accustom to going through life passively. If he didn't think being like that would make him permanently bland Zane would go the rest of his time here at the school like that. Walking around like a puppet wasn't too appealing though so he took these times just to be his own easy-going self.
Sometimes being him could be a real pain though. He was fairly tall and even laying out on the sofa left his legs dangling over the edge. It was a little uncomfortable but he could deal with it, Zane didn't feel like taking a chair, he wanted to lay down. Brushing a few black strands away from his face he got as comfortable as possible and simply stared at the ceiling with his silver gaze. Everything was pitch black to him anyway so he tried to call on a sense of tiredness, but it just didn't seem to be happening.. If only there were someone to chase away the boredom.
