The sun effortlessly pounded down upon the grass and flowers, even leaking through the most protective canopies that the courtyard had to offer, which only really consisted of a few pathetic trees. Unless you were a bug, you were not about to get lucky and escape the boiling sun. Because of this, the heat was next to intolerable and it mercilessly beamed down upon all those who were unfortunate enough to dare step a foot into the light. It didn't help that the air was motionless, without the slightest breeze to cool down all weary students, and it was even debatable whether or not the water from the fountains would evaporate and require refilling.
Unfortunately for Josh, this was his least favourite type of day.
Previously, the adventurous young adult had been wandering around the courtyard without an aim, which was already a rare occasion for the pale being. It hadn't been too exhausting when the sun was low in the morning, but now it was absolutely unbearable and Josh regretted his decision to venture out into the light. He was considering going for a swim in the water that remained from the fountains, but he doubted that the prefects would appreciate his need for the colder temperatures. His original plan had been to go back to his dorms, but he had no method in which to do so, as the moment he stepped out from under the tree he knew his essence would burn, figuratively of course.
"I once dreaded the cold," he muttered to himself quietly, slowly shaking his head from side to side, "How foolish I had been." The young adult leaned against the trunk of the tree he had picked, allowing himself to slowly slide down into a more comfortable position in the grass. Although light still managed to leak through, Josh knew that this was one of the coolest places he could be on the courtyard at this moment.
Josh slowly reached into his backpack for his bottle of water, drinking what remained of it, before continuously observing the heat waves emanating from all around to pass time. He could possibly make it until a cloud passed by, when he could bolt back for the dorms and make it back alive, if he was lucky. However, as he hesitantly glanced up the sky he knew he wouldn't be so fortunate to even have that opportunity, as the sky was as blue as it had ever been. He glanced around, hoping to catch someone's eye so that he could at least occupy himself with conversation until the sun was less powerful.
