It had been a long time since he had stepped foot in these classrooms. For several months, Jace had been gone, away on family business, paid for in full by the government, of course. While he was gifted, he was also the heir to his father's small business, and when the old man had gotten sick, Jace had been forced to help him out. He had returned only the day before, and was ready to return to his post as leader of the prefects.
Jace was indeed the leader of the Prefects, the students designated to keeping the rest of the students in line. The government was very careful about the gifted, and they had made sure that they had loyal student body members to ensure that the gifted didn't rise up and try to wipe them out. It was Jace's job to ensure that the government didn't think they needed extermination. Essentially, he was the shield that kept the student body alive, and they didn't even know it. Well, he may have been a little harsh at points, but it was better than the alternative.
The classroom he was in was a large arena type room, for power training. People with similar powers trained the freshman, and eventually the older students took on a mentor role in the class, allowing the teachers to focus on the freshman. Jace himself had never mentored someone, but if the right potential showed up, he would offer his services. Probably to someone who could replace him. Jace wondered when Battleground would show their faces, or even the other prefects. He was bored, and needed something to distract him, good or bad.
