Kiya smiled a bit as she danced around her sparring opponent, her feet light and agile as she avoided or blocked blow after blow. She was working with a few of the trainees on their martial arts, and was testing one of them who claimed he had some martial arts training back home before being moved to the island. Her purple eyes scanned the boy as he struck, taking in his movements and actions. He was using simple Karate, nothing fancy like she was used to using herself, or rather shifting between forms like she normally did. She watched his movements, critiquing silently his mistakes and bad form with some strikes as she simply blocked and dodged, shifting into Akido suddenly and shifting, catching his arm, and performing a near perfect for direction throw, tossing him into the pad with a satisfying thud.
"You're not bad kid, though there are a few inconsistencies in your form. I'll help ya with that." She turns towards the others, smiling a bit as she looks over them. Sure, they were only recruits but they all had potential as far as she was concerned. Everyone could do martial arts as long as they took the time and had the patience to learn, something she had been committing herself more and more to. She shifted, turning back to the kid and offered him her hand, which he took and she pulled him to his feet. "Karate is a solid foundation, but I plan on teaching more mixed martial arts. I'd rather people be able to pull off both attacks and counters then just focus on fast strikes and blocks. What I just used on you was an Akido throw, for example."
She turned to the rest of the group, her eyes scanning over the newcomers, though she did pick out a few older members on the edge who were simply observing. She smiled and shifted; trying not to let her usual British actions shine through and keep herself from swearing as she spoke was weird, but she took this as an opportunity to better herself. She wanted to eventually open a do-jo after all, and that could only happen if she proved herself as a teacher. And after they got off the island but that was another story and another part of the big picture.
"Does anyone else have any previous training? I'd rather learn about it now so I can build off of it then start from the ground up."
