For once the little deer girl wasn’t asleep in some tree like a fairy tale creature of old, nestled in a bed of rabbit’s ear moss and a kaleidoscope of flowers. No, instead she was exploring her new home. She was still new here, though not as new as some, and as such she hadn’t looked over every single inch of the forest yet. Most of it? She hoped, but she probably had only discovered a fraction of it so far. It was a big forest after all, and she was only just a small girl. She had probably spent more time towards the interior heart of the trees than really explore the outskirts, the parts towards the beach. And why was that? She thought she was friendly enough, so it couldn’t be from an aversion towards the other students. Could it?
She wasn’t spending time pondering on these thoughts as she made her way towards the beach, wanting to see the water again. She had only ever seen the ocean when she was brought to Ashford for the first time, and hadn’t seen it since. She still couldn’t get over the sheer size of it. She had never known there was so much water in the world! And in one place, too! From her reading she understood that there were other such bodies of water, called oceans, all over the world. While she knew far more about forests, and liked them the most, oceans were becoming a close second for her. There was so much life under the water, with all the fish and the corals and the sea plants.
She stopped in a smallish clearing, still a little ways from the beach, as she had been distracted by a butterfly that had fluttered across her path. She had decided to follow it, climbing into the trees and leaping after it as she wondered where it would take her. She let out a happy giggle when she saw that her insectoid friend had led her to a flower patch, smiling brightly as she watched. She let the butterfly have the right away, waiting until it had drunk its fill of the sweet nectar before she hopped to the ground to look at the flowers for herself.
She trailed her little fingers delicately over the blossoms, smiling even wider at the soft feel of them. Flowers of the same kind began to bloom into her hair, twining with the strands and wrapping around her horns to create a crown effect, the blossoms large and perfectly perfect looking if she did say so herself. Nothing could be more perfect than flowers, after all.
