Photographic Animation
In essence, Quinn is able to temporarily bring things to life in the 3D realm from a 2D image. She can only do this using photographs that were actually taken (meaning she can't use drawings/paintings), although it does not matter whether the photo is on a piece of paper or a digital format. This creates a huge mental strain on her, and if she does animate beings beyond her own limits she will start making sloppy decisions, feel extreme fatigue, and have a slower reaction rate.
- Whatever she animates will not have a conscious mind of their own, and will only obey Quinn's demands. They also will be made out of their original biological materials on the outside, meaning that a wolf would still have fur, but on the inside they do not have blood nor do they have organs. This makes them a little more difficult to kill than an average member of its species.
- She cannot bring scenery or plants into life, only creatures, and how long she can bring the creature into existence depends on the size of the organism. Anything larger than the size of an average cow will only last for about two minutes - however, she cannot animate anything taller than about ten feet. Smaller organisms, though, can last up to eight minutes each. Regardless of size, she can only animate four creatures at once, but only two of these (max) can be 'large' creatures.
- HOWEVER - humans are a huge exception. She can animate them, but only two at a time and they last a minute maximum. They also cannot talk (under their own accord - Quinn can still force them to speak) or use powers that the original individual might've had.
- The beings she animate have no physical capabilities beyond those of the original. A mouse will not be able to leap five feet high, nor will a fish be able to live outside of the water. Also, she cannot alter the size or appearance of the creature she animates outside of its natural boundaries. This means that she can't have a ten foot tall dog sprout from a photo of a tiny chihuahua, and if the image is filtered, then the animal animated will have the same filter applied to it in the real word. The image, however, does not have to contain the whole creature, and if (for example) the image only has a fox paw in it, she can still bring the entire fox 'into the world' from it.
- If the photograph where the creature is created from is destroyed (even just ripped a little if it's a physical copy), the creatures instantly vanishes along with it.
- Quinn cannot animate non-living objects. This means that if she has a picture of a gun or a sword she would not be able to make it appear into real life. She's limited to using photos of living creatures.
- Once she animates a creature from one image and she stops using them (whether by choice or force), she's unable to use that same creature from the photograph for about two minutes. Also, when first animating the creature she must be in direct contact with the photo (whether by touching the screen or touching the physical image), but afterwards she no longer needs to do so.
Ink Manipulation
Quinn is able to create, solidify, and move ink telepathically. This means she can use it for weapons, walls of defence, and also to blind enemies. This also means that when she can take ink off pages of books or alter certain drawn images by moving the ink around on the page (she's an artist's worst nightmare when she's in a bad mood).
- Quinn can only manipulate ink within a thirty metre radius of her, giving her the ability to use it for longer ranged attacks if she desires. She can temporarily blind opponents by ink at their eyes from her fingertips, and also create basic weapons like daggers and little staffs. The more ink she inputs into one object, though, the denser the object is and therefore the more effective and less likely to break. This means that creating larger objects is more inefficient, and it's better for her to make knives and daggers instead of swords and staffs. She can also use the ink as a shield, solidifying all of the ink she has directly in front of her to block incoming attacks.
- If she remains focused on keeping the ink solidified, she can keep it solid even when faced against temperatures of a cool flame. However, if she no longer focuses on the solidification of the ink, it returns to a liquid almost instantly under any threat.
- She can create only about 2L of ink to use at once, and the rest she must extract from books or printer cartridges. Therefore, she reuses a lot of her ink that she uses during battle, as it's not very useful to carry around hundreds of books.
- Quinn is slowly learning to be able to make constructs from her body with the ink. At the moment, she can make small spikes of ink form on her fists, but she's unable to make them move or do anything fancy.
- She's not limited to black ink, though, and she can also therefore manipulate tattoos and extract the ink from them. Sometimes, during battle, she does this with her own tattoos although it doesn't supply much ink and it's a last resort thing, considering how much she loves her body art.
- This makes it a lot, lot faster for Quinn to draw or manipulate photographs. Most of her preciseness with the ability, in fact, comes from using it to telepathically edit her photographs. She can splatter a bunch of ink on the photo, and, in an hour or so, have it look like the ink had been professionally edited in.
Enhanced Senses
Quinn is able to see, smell, hear, taste, and touch much better/more clearly than any other human. This has obvious advantages and disadvantages for each of her senses.
Sight
- Quinn can see way beyond the average field of view of a human, and will never need glasses thanks to a perfect eyesight. This means that she can see, very precisely, small movements from very far distances, especially if she focuses on specific spots. This gives her very fast reflexes, because, for example, she could see the twitching of muscles just before the punch starts that would give her an indicator of what was coming. However, this also means the imperfections are much more clear to her - she can see scratches, dents, and small flaws in things that other humans might not even be able to see when squinting.
Hearing
- Quinn can hear about three times better than your average human, being able to identify where the sounds are coming from and about how far away they are. This is probably her strongest sense, as she practiced it a lot (unintentionally) when she'd listen for sounds when photographing. The world is a lot louder to her, and therefore she can get a little claustrophobic in large groups of people thanks to the loud noises. However, she's able to drone out 'static' sound, like sounds of electronics working or chattering from inside a building. She can also hear much higher and lower sounds, giving her a bit of a weakness when against sound manipulators who know this and use it to hurt her. (15Hz-65,000Hz (range of cat and dog's hearing))
Smell
- Quinn can smell things about two times better than your normal human, allowing her to identify things from further distances and have an idea of where things have travelled from the scent they've left behind. She's very far from being a human bloodhound, though.
Taste + Touch
- Quinn's ability to taste and touch are both about one and a half times better than the average human, mainly due to her lack of focus on improving this. For touch, this means she's more susceptible to pain, and also she can feel things moving around her skin much more easily (like breathing, fabric, etc.). The main advantage to that is that she's much more sensitive to small vibrations in the ground around her, meaning that she can feel people's feet thumping around the Earth and she can feel sound. It's hard to sneak up on her because of this accompanied with her enhanced hearing. Her taste is also stronger, but she's grown used to this and therefore it's only effect is to allow her to enjoy gourmet foods more than the normal person might - but this really doesn't do much.

Appearance:
Quinn has a very lanky body form, as she seems very thin despite not being weak or frail (she's above average muscular-wise). Her chest is also extremely flat, which she personally appreciates as it keeps it out of her way. This all comes from her not eating very much and having a high metabolism and she's a little bit underweight. She's a little bit taller than average at 5"7', but her slouched shoulders and hunched back commonly leave her appearing smaller than this. Her clothing choice is normally dark blue or black skinny jeans and a black bra under a lowcut, white tank-top. She has three assorted bracelets on her right hand, consisting of two brown leather ones and a spiked black leather bracelet. Additionally, she has three gun shells from her mother's old police pistol, which she hangs around her neck and she is semi-protective of. But, the main reason she wears it just because she thinks it looks fucking badass, and as a way of rebelling against her father by constantly reminding him of Quinn's mother. She also has one tattoo on her right arm, reaching from her shoulder down to her upper wrist. Her dyed hair starts off a light purple at the top, but quickly changes to a vibrant blue. Her original hair colour was a light brown and this occasionally can be seen near the purple, too. This light purple and brown at the top, though, isn't seen very often as she tends to wear a dark-coloured beanie on her head that hides it. This hair is always cut to just above her shoulders in layers, and she never lets it grow past.
Quinn is relatively tanned and her body tends to be covered in bumps and bruises as a result of overzealous exploration. She's still a bit of a child at heart and she falls and stumbles quite a lot while trying to get the perfect picture. Quinn's not extremely clumsy, but she can appear to be because of her need to get the right angle all the time. Apart from the typical ear lobe piercing that (where she always wears a standard thick black hoop), Quinn's only extras are two piercings on the helix of her left ear. In each of these two holes on her left ear, she has one thin black hoop running through it (black instead of silver). However, this is always hidden behind either her hair or her beanie and it's uncommon for people to see it. It's more of a personal look that she herself enjoys, and she doesn't care much if other people see it. Her eyes are a brilliant blue that stand out with her hair, even when she doesn't wear makeup (all the time). Overall, her face is long and pointed, even though her beanie and side-bangs in her hair make it seem shorter.
Personality
[/b]- Regardless of the situation, Quinn tends to be the one to keep her head. If someone approaches her yelling and screaming, her voice will remain level even if she's internally freaking out. This transfers over onto other high-stress situations, as she seems to deal with them very well. She has a breaking point different from most others - while some might break and start crying or yelling, she becomes eerily calm and her mind becomes completely clear. This breaking point, though, takes a very long time to reach and the vast majority of the time her mind is far from clear due to her enhanced senses cluttering it with panic. But, she always keeps her cool.
Positive:
* Sarcastic/Teasing- It's debatable whether this is good or bad, but Quinn has a very sarcastic and dry sense of humour. She is only really serious in the face of conflict and she much prefers to joke around in a playful manner, especially through teasing. However, this also means she struggles with other people's emotions and she doesn't know how to help when other people express their own concerns with her.
* Loyal- Quinn is dead loyal to her friends and beliefs. This means that she'd rather be caught dead than backstabbing someone else, and she's very quick to be the one to jump to her feet to defend either her opinion or her friends. Since she's so unused to having a lot of people close to her, she'd likely even be willing to go to the extent of dying for them.
* Passionate- Although she pretends to care about nothing, Quinn is very passionate about her photography and she loves to talk to people about it. She's not just engaged in the art part of it, either, as she also finds the way that cameras work fascinating and she enjoys learning about it.
* Natural Leader- Quinn is very quick to jump into a leadership position. She loves being able to guide others to success behind her, and she's very good at it as she can adopt a logical attitude if she needs. However, her lack of confidence in groups means she's unable to show this piece of her very often.
* Intellectual- Quinn actually is relatively intelligent, especially socially, and she is very quick to figure out plans in all situations. This doesn't mean school-smart, though, as the reason she struggled with it was mainly due to the teaching method. She's a big 'do-er' rather than a visual or auditory, meaning she struggled with remembering everything she was taught. Additionally, her developing enhanced senses put her at a huge disadvantage at school as, during tests when she was supposed to be focusing, she'd hear noises from far away that distracted her. However, she doesn't realize this and she struggles with putting herself above other people for her intelligence since, for so long, she's only ever been second-best.[/ul]
Negative:
* Clingy- Quinn has a problem with seeing her friends hanging around other people. She worries that they'll forget about her and stop trying to speak with her (as a result of being ignored throughout the most of her life), meaning that she strives to keep herself around her friends a lot so this doesn't happen. This means she can seem very clingy, as she tries to keep her friends close and doesn't give them much space unless they explicitly demand for it.
* Jealous- Especially with her sister, Quinn is very jealous of individuals who had much better relationships with their parents. This leads to her being especially rude and douche-y to those who fall under the 'nerd' category, as they are part of the 'perfect' child stereotype and she hates the idea of having other parents like their kids when they didn't seem to like her.
* Elitist and pessimist- Although it's only with certain things that she is knowledgeable about, Quinn tends to be a bit of an elitist. She thinks she knows so much more about the world than anyone else does (mainly in a pessimistic tone), meaning that when someone is extremely optimist she aims to crush it because she believes she, with her enhanced senses, knows better.
* Struggles with sharing- Quinn has a lot of trouble sharing her feelings, mainly because it's not something she's talked about often. She has a lot of pent up anger, especially with her family, but her only outlet is her fashion. If her feelings become too strong or overwhelming, though, Quinn will find it difficult to share as she simply won't know how to express it. She also lacks some empathy and finds it difficult to help others.
* Oversensitive- Although it seems counterintuitive due to Quinn's typical "I don't give a fuck" attitude, Quinn is very easily offended by what people say. She cares a lot for affection and she, deep down, wants it from everyone, meaning that words will hurt her very easily. However, she also views negative attention better than no attention, so she does prefer to stand out in a crowd in a bad way rather than to remain quiet.
* Unconfident- Quinn doesn't believe in herself, at all. She's so used to only being second-best that she almost sees herself as worthless and useless, unable to make an impact in the world. Funnily enough, being forgotten is one of her biggest fears so she struggles with trying to make an impact and thinking that she could never do anything worth anyone's time. Even in photography, where she's actually quite talented, she believes she'll never be able to do anything worth anyone's time and she hates putting herself above others.[/ul]
Likes:
* Smoking- Whether it's normal cigarettes or marijuana, Quinn uses smoking to relax her overwhelming instincts and senses. This lets her be a lot less hyperactive and skittish as it stops her mind from overreacting. Although she's not quite addicted, she always has a pack of cigarettes on her and a lighter to help her relax incase things become overwhelming for her.
* Running- Quinn thinks it's very useful to stay in shape and she enjoys the challenge it presents while also keeping her mind busy. It's something she does especially when she's worried or concerned about something.
* Other art forms- Although Quinn is not extremely talented in drawing, painting, or musical forms of art, she appreciates analyzing pieces and is willing to discuss them often. This does not mean she knows much about them, though, even though she's interested.
[/ul]
Dislikes:
* Disloyalty- Quinn has no tolerance for those who are disloyal to their friends or disloyal to themselves. She makes this very clear and is very disdainful of people who change their appearance, opinions, and friends every other day.
* Authority figures- Mainly as a result of the impacts of her policemen father with her friends, Quinn hates authority figures who try to tell her what she should or shouldn't do. She doesn't get along well with the prefects for this reason, but this doesn't mean she goes out of her way to disobey. She just does what she wants.
* Wedding photography- This is the main art form that Quinn hates. This is partially because she spent so many hours taking hundreds of photos of stupid couples in white that she grew to hate the boring repetition of it all. She's quick to dislike these types of photographers, as she views them as boring and unimaginative.[/ul][/blockquote]
History
Family Members/guardians:
Laelynn Alice Slater (Younger half-sister) // Alive...unfortunately
Linda Angela Slater (Step-mother) // Alive
Robert Issac Slater (Father) // Alive
Isabelle Alyssa Slater (Mother) // Deceased
History:
From the moment she was born, Quinn had always been Isabelle's little girl. She'd gotten a lot of her features from her mother, including her rounded nose, cornered features, and, more noticeably, her sapphire blue eyes. Not just that, but also there was nothing that made the little girl happier than her mother's warm embrace. Even as a baby, when her father picked her up, she would cry and whine until her mother cradled her in her arms. Although her dad took it a little personally, her mother would always laugh it off. She'd say that Robert's scruff of a beard petrified the little girl whenever it rubbed against her face, while indirect family members would claim that her mother had done the same as a child. They were a happy family, although Robert always seemed to be a little distant from Quinn.
Quinn was only alive for a year and a bit when her mother went back to work to help support the family. Both her mother and father were policemen, and during the day they left Quinn with one of their colleagues who worked the nightshift. When the police station was called about a break-in one day, Isabelle was asked to lead the assault. There was a shortage of people at the station that day, as it was by Christmas. Relatively unexperienced as a leader and still young, Isabelle participated in part of the brash frontal assault and was shot before she could make it past the boot room. She never woke up.
The girl never remembered much of her mother, but she remembers that her life had been extremely happy before. Soon, her father found another woman, named Linda, and the two married and had another child. As Laelynn and Quinn grew older, Quinn found herself feeling consistently left out. It was never anything too big, but it always seemed that Lynn got the bigger helping or she got the better Christmas presents. She seemed to get sick often, too, which left Quinn neglected while her parents took care of the other girl. Even at a young age, Quinn became jealous of her half-sister, who her family praised beyond compare and adored for every little action she made.
Not long after Lynn got chickenpox, Quinn noticed that Lynn had begun to experience some loss of motion. She would walk weirdly and stumble around, which was something her parents noticed too. When Quinn was four, they took her half-sister to the hospital where she was diagnosed with both post-viral cerebellar ataxia and hypotonia. In most cases, those with ataxia get it after a sickness, which Lynn had a lot of, and it tends to go away with time. However, an unfortunate infection at the same time caused it to be permanent. Eventually, she ended up in a wheelchair with the permanent effects of her ataxia. Quinn, in her family, was soon forgotten. Everything was always about Lynn, what she did at school that day, how she was feeling, and what she wanted to do.
At first, Quinn always tried her hardest to get positive attention from her parents. She poured all of her focus into her studies so she could get good marks and be praised for it, but her sister always outdid her in almost everything. On the rare occasion that Lynn didn't do as well, Robert and Linda would express sympathy for the younger girl. No matter what, Quinn wasn't good enough for their attention, and it got to the girl fast. The only thing she seemed to be very good at was photography - she, for some reason, had an eye for it and her ability to see errors in everything (from her Enhanced Senses) led her to going into photography to try and show the mistakes/cracks in society. Since trying to do well in school and taking photos didn't seem to work in grabbing their attention, Quinn decided to go a different route.
Soon, Quinn started hanging out with what most parents would consider the 'wrong' crowd. They commonly went out to parties and smoked pot, and when they weren't doing that they'd be sharing cigarettes on school grounds. It wasn't uncommon for Quinn to disrespect her teachers and get a call home (although she never offended her art teacher as she had too much respect for him). Her group would commonly go to loud local performances, mainly metal or punk. Although she didn't hate the genres, she hated concerts due to the proximity of so many people, but the need to fit in with her group of friends took priority. She didn't want to be ignored like she was in her family. Soon though, they became an acquired taste. She dyed her hair numerous times and got a tattoo on her right arm, but eventually she decided to stick with light purple hair fading into blue as her favourite hair colour. She was very rarely at home and, when she was, she obnoxiously ignored her younger sister and would be flat-out rude to her and her parents if forced to speak.
In a way, it kind of worked. Her father, as a police, got more involved with her and her friends when she came home with a tattoo, as he realized they might be using drugs. This wasn't quite what Quinn wanted, but she took it. She enjoyed being asked about and prodded, even though it was not for the reason she expected. Soon, though, her father caught her in the act of smoking pot and threatened to fine her a great sum if she did not stop seeing her friends. Since she had no money to spend and her father was serious, she broke off from the people she knew.
Angry at the world and only wanting to be liked by someone, Quinn dove deep into her photography. She would commonly approach her art teacher who was overenthusiastic about finding her a job as one of his friend's assistant. She worked through a lot of her years as a wedding photographer's assistant, occasionally even ditching classes to help with wedding shots. She didn't necessarily enjoy it that much (due to it being far from her style), but she still loved the photography and it took her away from home. Also, this gave her the money to buy photography equipment of her own, which she then used to develop her style. Her eyes were sharper than anyone else's - she could see even the tiniest flaws in building structures that no one else noticed. Because of this, the style she developed was urban 'grunge' photography, with the aim of striking fear, discomfort, and showing cracks and uncertainty within places (especially in cities or buildings) to show the weaknesses of society. This means it involved a lot of post-processing: she spent a lot of time editing every photo she took to give it that unnerving edge. Her goal was to highlight what she saw when she looked out the window. The other part of her style relied more on urban decay, which is a lot harder to find and required she spent a lot of time exploring abandoned buildings. She was unable to explore this part of her style to the furthest extent due to the inability to travel to places with more decaying architecture. This all was another way of rebelling against her parents: she was trying to show destruction within the system that they (especially her father) supported so strongly.
Quinn soon discovered that she could make creatures/beings that were in her photographs pop out. At first, she was editing a picture she had and she accidentally pressed her finger against the screen when looking closely at it. The model that was in it popped out behind her and, after the initial shock, she found out she could control its movements. Soon, she looked online for photos of other animals and was able to do the same thing with them, too. She also began to be able to manipulate ink, and started using it to edit her photos.
Her father stumbled in upon her doing this. Grateful for the chance to get rid of the rebellious step-kid that was the last remnants of Robert's old family, Linda encouraged him to let the officials know what was going on. Robert thought that it'd be for the best, and she was sent to Ashford.
