Isabelle is a complex multi-layered person: chipper, adventurous, wild, rebellious, harmless, kind, aloof, and cynical are all words that could describe her different parts.
On one hand, she is very chipper. She’s always making a joke, or throwing out silly one-liners to amuse the people around her. Life is simply one huge playground to her, and she’s always looking for something new and exciting to liven up her days. She boldly lives life with a sparkle in her eye and the words “take my hand; we’ll go on an adventure” on her lips. What Isabelle hates most is monotony. She can’t stand history classes or conversations about sports and the weather. She always needs something new, something never done before in her life to keep her bouncy. Also, Isabelle is very friendly and nondiscriminatory; she would talk to the headmistress of the academy the same way that she would talk to a random seventh grader.
Anyone who knows of Isabelle knows that she does whatever she likes. She hates the idea of being trained and cultivated and would much rather be a “loose cannon.” Consequently, she hates Ashford Academy. Furthermore, she breaks rules for no reason other than because they are rules. If someone tells her what to do, she will go out of her way to do the exact opposite, even if she originally intended to do what the person said before he/she said it. She is a rebel without a cause. However, anyone who truly knows Isabelle knows that she is essentially harmless and probably the lamest rebel ever. Once again, she only breaks rules for the sake of breaking them, and she never actually does anything that she thinks would hurt anyone or cause any real trouble. For example, she might sneak out of her dorm room past curfew just to take a walk down the block and then come home. Furthermore, her silly “RULE? MUST BREAK IT!” impulse makes her fairly easy to manipulate using reverse psychology. All one has to do in order to make her do what he or she wants, is simply tell her not to do it.
Underneath her whacky and seemingly rebellious exterior, Isabelle is a relatively kind-hearted person. She cares about people in general and, once again, tries not to hurt anyone. However, while she is great at being goofy, she is terrible at being serious or expressing genuine emotions. It takes a lot out of her to say the words “I love you,” even if she is feeling it with every ounce of her heart. If Isabelle ever became a drug addict, she would sooner put a bullet in her chest than agree to sit in a circle and talk to strangers about her feelings. Consequently, she does not like corny couples or hopeless romantics.
Although Isabelle is not conceited, she is prideful. She thinks or herself as an independent person and doesn’t like other people trying to “take care of her,” even if she knows, deep down, that she sometimes needs it (because she is extremely accident prone). She would never be caught dead admitting out loud that she needed somebody.
Finally, Isabelle does have a bit of a “dark side.” All of her silliness and boldness stems from her cynicism and frustration at a world that is so orderly and bland. She hates bell schedules and routines and obligatory conversations in which everything that is said is predictable and generic. She hates anything that can be deemed “generic.” Although she is usually good at hiding this negative thinking, it can come out when she is angry or when she is confiding in someone whom she must really, really, really trust.

History
Behind the Character
Basics
Name: Isabelle Colette Amherst
Nicknames: Sinclair calls her liebling, Justin Ashby calls her Bells, but she mostly goes by just Isabelle, occasionally Isy.
Age: 16
Birthday: September 11
Grade: 11th
Powers:
Illusionist. Isabelle can project visual, auditory, olfactory, and tactile illusions. Creating one simple illusion at a time, such as the ring of a telephone, is simple for Isabelle. However, orchestrating a vivid torrent of illusions of all four kinds at the same time is much more exhausting for her, and she can only do it for a short period of about ten minutes before she faints. On the other hand, as far as illusionists go, Isabelle is quite a powerful one since she has been busy using the power to prank people since it manifested.
Retrocognition. Isabelle can learn about a person’s past by looking at them, but it is not automatic, and information doesn’t simple come rushing into her mind. She must have some idea of what she is looking for. Also, when she does this, her blue eyes turn gray and cloudy, giving away what she is doing, and the person can stop her by disrupting her if he or she wishes.
Member Group: Prefect
Canon or not: No.
Appearance:
Isabelle, at five foot three, is not very tall. She is slender and doesn’t really have noticeable curves. Her skin is paler than that of most people, which causes the coral red lipstick that she always wears to stand out even more. Her eyes are a deep, dark shade of blue, like aquamarine. Even more noticeable than her eyes, however, is her wild hair. She has a lot of hair, dyed black with lots of purple and blue highlights.
If one had to put a label on Isabelle’s fashion choices, then “punk” would probably be the closest description, but there isn’t really one consistent theme to her wardrobe. She likes bright colors and funky accessories with things like dinosaurs or robots on them. Basically, she likes anything that no one else would ever be seen wearing. Boots, suspenders, and high-waist skirts are a few staples of her style. At the same time, however, she often likes to skip the effort and just wear whatever is easy and comfortable, like a band tee with jeans.

History
Family Members/guardians:
David Amherst, father [43]
Adele Amherst, mother [36]
History:
The oddity known as Isabelle Amherst was born in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents were in love, but they were young: too young, really. At 20 and 27 respectively, Adele and David Amherst had just started their lives. Adele had already landed a good number of modeling gigs for her young age, and David, a graduate of UMass, was an up-and-coming political activist. Still, they believed that they could chase their dream careers and raise a daughter at the same time. When Isabelle was still young, they did give her enough attention. The Amherst daughter had a fairly average childhood with a father who was always home for dinner and a gorgeous mother who sometimes spoke in French to her.
However, once Isabelle finished Kindergarten, her parents decided that it was time to pay far more attention to their careers. While Adele did more photo shoots, fashion shows, and minor acting jobs, and David pursued his career in politics, Isabelle spent a lot of time at school and in day cares. By the time she finished middle school, both of her parents were household names. Her mother was a well-known model, actress, and spokeswoman, her father was the mayor of Chicago, and Isabelle was a child of neglect. Around this time, her parents started to leave for business trips, leaving Isabelle home alone with large sums of money and no supervision, assuming that she was old enough to know right from wrong.
Subconsciously seeking attention from her parents, Isabelle was quite rebellious her freshman year. She dyed her blonde hair black with blue and purple highlights. She made odd fashion choices. Her parents were disdainful, but rather than giving her attention, they gave her an etiquette tutor. When Isabelle’s power of creating illusions manifested, Isabelle was determined to run with it. She became a prankster. At first, the pranks were relatively harmless, but that failed to garner the attention that she unwittingly sought, so the pranks escalated until she unintentionally crossed a line. Isabelle’s biology teacher was an elderly woman with a deceased beloved husband. Having told her best friend at the time, Justin Ashby, about her new power, Isabelle wanted to show him how much her power had grown. During detention one day, when only Isabelle, Justin, and the biology teacher were present, Isabelle conjured vivid illusions of her biology teacher’s late husband. Using her recently developed power of retrocognition, she had perfected her illusions of the husband, of his voice, of his smell, of his touch. The elderly biology teacher was obviously terrified and had a heart attack. Though she survived, she was then hospitalized for emotional instability and possible schizophrenia.
Isabelle was mortified. She was mischievous, but she was not malicious. She hadn’t thought about what consequences her actions would have. When the consequences came, not knowing what else to do, Isabelle confessed to her parents about her powers. Worried about the possibility of a scandal that would tarnish their careers, particularly David’s, Isabelle’s parents were cooperative when Ashford Academy heard about Isabelle and came for her. Frankly, Isabelle was pissed.
She had a reputation as a loose cannon, a wild child, and she hated the idea of a place that would try to train and refine her powers and use them for some ridiculous war. They were even worse than her tutors. As soon as she arrived, Isabelle hated the prefects. She flirted with the idea of joining the Battle Front, but they were a bit too dark for her mischievous yet harmless intentions, so she remained neutral. During her time as a neutral student, she met Sinclair Gabriel.
Sinclair distracted Isabelle from her hatred of Ashford Academy. They were a very dynamic duo, once throwing colored chalk around the courtyard to “welcome the spring with colors.”“Dr. Seuss would be so proud. Together, we’ll color the world. One bag of chalk at a time.”
Unfortunately, distraction couldn’t keep Isabelle happy forever. After a prank went wrong, Sinclair Gabriel was severely injured (long story), and Isabelle made a promise that she would regret. Meredith Monroe, a healer, was near, and she had heard of Isabelle’s commendable talents as an illusionist. She knew that the prefects had been soliciting Isabelle for a while, and she knew that Isabelle wasn’t interested. As Meredith healed Sinclair, she asked Isabelle to consider taking the prefects up on their offer to become one of them. Overcome with emotion, holding Sinclair’s hand, Isabelle hurriedly promised that she would.
Isabelle never broke a promise.
That day, Isabelle became Ashford Academy’s most reluctant prefect. Though she attended meetings (most of the time) and helped in the little skirmishes that took place, Isabelle never took her role as a prefect very seriously. Unlike some other prefects, she didn’t find it necessary to police the school or abuse the neutrals.
Her life took yet another turn when one day, Sinclair, who had joined the Battle Front by that time, came up with the ridiculous idea of sneaking Isabelle into one of the silly Battle Front meetings. He figured no one paid attention anyway, so he put her in one of his oversized black hoodies, and they sat together in the back of a meeting, making silly jokes at the angsty Battle Front teens' expense. Once they started laughing too hard, Isabelle's identity as a prefect was discovered. Miraculously, Sinclair was able to protect Isabelle and convince the Battle Fronters to let her go, but one of them, who had the power to erase memories, wiped Isabelle's memory. Just to be safe, in case she had been sneaked into any previous meetings, the Battle Fronter wiped the entire school year from her memory. Since the time-span being erased was so large, it also had side-effects, taking away various memories from other points of her life, including the memory of ruining a teacher's life. This has made her a less dark person, temporarily, until she regains all of her memories.
Since then, her power of retrocognition has allowed her memories to slowly return, but she still can't remember most of her sophomore year at Ashford.
