Basics
Name: Meredith Jade Monroe
Nicknames: Mer, MJ
Age: 18
Birthday: December 1, 1993
Grade: 12th
Power:Power Augmentation, Power Modification,HealingBiological Manipulation, Empathy (subtle)
Power Modification: Meredith can modify the effectiveness of others' powers. Meredith's power modification ability is the most closely linked to her emotions. With this power, Meredith can suppress another gifted individual's powers to virtual negation, augment them to virtual boundlessness, or anything in between. Meredith has little control over this power at the time and usually augments or suppresses people's powers unintentionally, depending on her emotions.
Biological Manipulation: Control over cellular processes. Cell death and cell regeneration. Can be used for healing or attacking. Only works within a proximity of ~10 feet and can be time-consuming.
Empathy: Empathy is Meredith's weakest ability. Though it was once a passive ability that forced her to constantly be aware of, or even to feel, the emotions around her, the activation of power suppression weakened Meredith's empathy. Now, she can only read people's emotions when she actively uses her empathy, and the readings are not as sharp unless she really focuses.
Member Group: Prefect
Canon or not: Prefect Commander
Appearance: At 5'8", Meredith stands a bit taller than the average girl. She has an apple-shaped body, meaning that most of her weight is stored in her upper body. She is slender but not athletic. Having very little muscle, she looks frail because she is.
Meredith's hair is light brown (previously red) and falls several inches below her shoulders. Her lips are thin, her nose thin and pointed, and her eyebrows straight and fairly dark. She has prominent cheekbones, but her most noticeable feature is her eyes, not necessarily because of their violet color (violet eyes being relatively normal in the CTB universe) but because of the way they seem to radiate her spectrum of emotions. Her eyes make her quite transparent, even though she is demure in nature.
As for her wardrobe, Meredith likes to keep it simple, modest, and elegant. Friends have mocked her for her disdain for all colors excluding white, black, and earth tones, and Bridget Shine has threatened to replace her entire wardrobe with neon-colored pieces as an April Fool's Day prank.
Meredith is not drop dead gorgeous, but she does have a subtle beauty about her that one would only notice upon a second look. She wears minimal make-up and compulsively keeps her clothes clean and neatly ironed.

Overall Personality:
On the surface, Meredith is kind, docile, gentle, warm, and maternal. Preferring contemplation over conversation, she is introverted: shy, quiet, reflective, observant, and very perceptive. She seems to live in "passive observation" mode, with wide eyes and a quiet curiosity about the world around her. She is sweet and submissive in a way, hating conflict and confrontation. One who dislikes her might summarize her as awkward, weak, submissive, overly apologetic, mousy, and helpless, and that description would have some truth to it, at least on a surface level.
However, Meredith has a hidden inner strength that was dormant before the kidnappings but brought to the forefront of her personality after the trauma. Meredith's strength comes from two places: her capacity for unconditional love and her deeply embedded anger at the world and all of its cruelty. In combination, these traits make Meredith willing to do anything to protect the ones she loves. If a person were to hurt somebody she loved, then Meredith would do a sudden one-eighty in personality and destroy that person. This strength and fierceness is usually unseen but can come out at any moment, especially when someone she loves is threatened.
Meredith is also intelligent and nerdy. Though she is familiar with the sciences, her passion is literature, particularly classic literature. She is always reading, no, devouring a book, and she especially loves Oscar Wilde and William Shakespeare and will occasionally quote their lines, giggling. The young woman has a sort of bashful sense of humor. If she makes a joke, she'll do it in a demure way that might cause the person with whom she is talking to miss the joke. Almost all of her jokes involve literature in some way, particularly Oscar Wilde or Mr. Darcy.
Meredith has a motherly way about her and is as drawn to kids as they are drawn to her. Her protective instincts and her aura of warmth are heightened when she is dealing with children.
Meredith is innately insecure. Her relatively low self-esteem stems from always being in the shadow of her popular, lively, and powerful twin, Reese. One might say that she's prone to abusive relationships; if one were to tell her she is stupid, weak, and not worth anyone's time-- deep down, she would probably believe it. Most of the time, this deeply rooted insecurity is hidden behind a mask of confidence that she uses to deal with the prefects, who treat her as their second-in-command. Having grown used to this fact, she is comfortable with giving orders. She takes full advantage of her position of power, hoping to restore the prefects' original goals of order, safety, and peace while ridding them of the power lust that has pervaded the group.
History
Family Members/guardians:

Juliet Monroe: mother [deceased at age 26]
Reese Monroe: twin [deceased at age 16]
History:
Meredith and Reese Monroe, fraternal twins, were born in rural Indiana. They lost their parents due to a car accident when they were three. As they were passed from foster home to foster home, people always questioned how the two three-year-olds had survived the devastating crash that had killed both their young, healthy parents. The answer became clear to the girls when they simultaneously began to develop their powers when they were six. The twins were gifted.
Having no family but each other, the girls were close. Their powers were their special secret. Seeking an escape from the world that had nearly forgotten them, they would often sneak out when their foster families were asleep to secretly train their powers together. Reese was the alpha of the pack; she wielded the power of earth manipulation, and from the beginning, she was strong. At just seven years old, she could lift boulders. Meredith was arguably just as strong, but her powers were not offensive. In addition to the power of empathy, which Reese teased, calling it "useless," Meredith could rapidly heal the wounds of others and enhance the powers of others to as much as double their original strength.
As Reese grew stronger and stronger, it became increasingly difficult to hide the twins' secret. By the age of fifteen, Reese could uproot trees and cause windstorms. Inevitably, one night, the girls' foster parents were awakened by their training as Reese was attempting to create an earthquake, and their powers were discovered. While Meredith was terrified as they were told they would be sent to Ashford School for the Gifted, Reese was ecstatic. Finally, her powers could find their true potential. Reese convinced Meredith to welcome their new future as well. She painted an image of the twins becoming the latest duo with which to be reckoned.
For a year at Ashford, Reese's powers and confidence were indeed renowned, while Meredith's sidekick powers of healing, augmentation, and empathy faded into the background. At age 16, Reese became a young prefect.
Meredith was left all alone when Reese died from an infected wound from an infamous confrontation with a Battle Front student that got out of hand. Hoping to avenge her sister's death, she trained to become a prefect herself and continue with her sister's goals.

Although Rouari would have instantly had his ear drums blown out if Peyton had noticed him taking her supplies, or even daring to come relatively near her, the boy was lucky. Peyton was far too absorbed in her "research" to be aware of his approach. Her ears were tuned in to nothing but the listening device in her ear, and her eyes were focused solely on the paper across which she was scribbling line after line about the teenagers whom, as she now knew, were all mutants. Now that she had four different subjects to keep track of, her concentration on the matter was intense as ever, which was the only reason why she didn't immediately threaten the trespasser with painful death the second that he stepped within a five-foot radius of her work area.
Even her brother's sitting down directly beside her failed to distract her from the importance of her job. The four mutant friends were now (conveniently enough) discussing all of the amusing pranks that they had pulled using their powers. One of them even mentioned her interest in joining the Archangel Corporation. Peyton had hit a gold mine of information, and she was not about to let anything pull her away from it. Unfortunately, a kiss planted on her cheek was not something that could be ignored. Her face suddenly turned vermilion red, resulting both from the kiss and from her pure outrage at the mere fact that anyone had the audacity to come into contact with her while she was doing her job. In a second, she was fully prepared to violently pick up the perpetrator with one hand and fling him into the fountain that she had supposedly been drawing. Her currently bottled fury was about to be unleashed. Then, she whipped her head to the side, only to find that it was none other than Sinclair Gabriel, her long lost but recently found brother. The undilluted rage that radiated from Peyton's eyes dimmed down a notch into controlled anger.
One Mississippi, two Mississippi...
Peyton deliberately practiced several of the techniques she had been taught at the institution to which she had been committed long ago-- techniques that she found dreadfully demeaning yet necessary in situations such as one in which she was required to calm down just enough to prevent herself from killing her brother for kissing her on the cheek.
"Sinclair," she said a couple of seconds later, once she felt mellow enough to refrain from murder, although her voice and expression still showed signs of being severely pissed. "Hi. What are you doing here?" As she spoke again, her tone showed that her anger had subsided a little more and that she was calm enough to slowly recall that she actually felt affectionatelty toward the person sitting next to her. "And... why in Himmel's name is your Asian friend using my paper?" she added finally, her voice now showing just confusion and question in place of the previous anger.
